This position is accountable to manage the development and implementation of transportation sourcing strategies for multiple business divisions within DFA's Commercial Operations. Provide cost effective and quality third party transportation services for North America outbound and inbound raw materials and packaging freight. Support administration of transportation bid events, network optimization changes and continuous improvement initiatives. Assess the transportation markets to determine appropriate strategy changes. Serve as the escalation for transportation operations, support action plans to meet cost and service targets. Provide stakeholders forward visibility of transportation cost and any variances with necessary resolution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and execution of the North American transportation sourcing strategy.

  • Implement and manage the core carrier and strategic partner relationships, including the administration of carrier bidding.

  • Provide an expert understanding of the transportation markets. Assess the market and determine appropriate strategies and drive tactical plans.

  • Familiarity with governmental regulations, legislations and industry benchmarks for transportation cost components such as fuel, accessorials and modal conversion. Provide recommendations on risk mitigation with changing market regulations and components.

  • Ensure our systems and reporting drive efficient transportation operations (SAP, TMS, Power of BI) to provide an accurate portrayal of transportation cost and service.

  • Provide continuous improvement recommendations for service and cost of third-party providers.

  • Metric reporting for North American transportation spend.

  • Execution of carrier performance score carding, in which cost, service and capacity are measured.

  • Bring ideas and implement cost savings, own project performance and reporting ensuring they are understood by affected stakeholders, adopted and savings are accurately forecasted and captured.

  • Forecast and budget transportation spend and identify root cause cost variances to the budget.

  • Educate the organization on the desire to be a "Shipper of Choice".

  • Build trusted partnerships for long term excellence with Product Optimization, S&OP, Finance, Sales, Customer Service, Manufacturing, Third Party Warehouses and Carriers.

  • Work with stakeholders to understand their needs and translate into effective transportation strategies.

  • Support transportation operations to ensure customer satisfaction in a cost competitive manner.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, preferably Supply Chain Management

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in logistics procurement and operations

  • High proficiency with SAP or similar enterprise systems

  • Transportation Management Systems (TMS) experience

  • Advanced skills with Excel and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Food and beverage experience preferred for a large multi-plant organization

  • Certification and/or License - Lean Six Sigma, Supply Chain, or Project Management preferred

Licensing and Certification:

  • APICS Certification is a plus

Physical Demands Must be able to continuously sit, stand and walk, climb stairs, and remain in uncomfortable positions for prolonged periods of time. Must have hearing acuity sufficient to hear verbal instructions and communication from clients, respond to emergency alarms, and answer the telephone. Must be able to concentrate on moderate details with frequent interruptions, attend to specific functions for 10-25 minutes, remember multiple tasks and assignments over an 8-hour period, and understand and relate specific ideas and concepts.
