Manager, Track Testing

SUMMARY:

The person in this position safely and efficiently operates hi-rail track-geometry testing vehicles. The successful candidate will be able to operate in a fast paced, demanding environment and be able deliver comprehensive reports on time and in a manner that is responsive to regional and railroad requirements. This is a field position with 100 percent travel required, with minimum two-week cycles away from home at a time.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with regulations, policies, and procedures.

• Enforce compliance with safety rules, operating rules, and roadway worker rules

• Perform equipment safety and maintenance checks

• Ensure the equipment is collecting accurate data

• Perform preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and adjustments to equipment as needed

• Interface with railroad officials to ensure efficient and organized use of equipment

• Assist railroad and region personnel with verifying noncompliant locations

• Process test data in real time or post process as required

• Provide deliverable reports on a timely basis to railroad and region officials

• Promote a safe and drug-free working environment

REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• Strong computer skills

• A background or training in electronics

• Good oral and written communication skills

• Ability to perform maintenance and troubleshoot equipment problems; mechanically inclined with some experience in this field preferred

• Knowledge of FRA and Transport Canada Track Safety Standards

• Knowledge of Roadway Worker Protection Rules

• Knowledge of Operating Rules

• Ability to operate equipment in various weather conditions and temperatures

• Willingness to work flexible schedules; work hours will include working weekends and some holidays and may include a nonstandard work week

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS:

• High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred

• One to three years of related railroad experience preferred

• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

• Must be able to pass a DOT physical

• Must have or be able to obtain a passport
