What you are good at

The Manager will support development of long-term strategy, planning and innovation for one of Schwab's largest and most critical organizations in support of multi-year modernization initiatives that will have significant impact on our future.

The Manager works in a team setting, reporting to a Director and working with multiple constituents across Schwab's technology organization and business units. They typically take ownership of one or more work streams, perform data focused analysis and give recommendations for strategy development. Project work is broad in scope and will require creativity, flexibility, analytical abilities, structured thinking, and strong written and oral communication skills. The successful candidate will be adaptable to a range of challenging projects and have a strong interest in technology, innovation and financial services. They will be proactive, results oriented and able to lead one or more work streams. They will have the ability to synthesize an array of internal and external inputs into a coherent picture to advise a winning strategy.

The Manager has responsibility for significant elements of project work, including:

  • Supporting strategic project definition, idea generation, and insight development for a several thousand person organization, with mentorship from technology strategy managers and directors

  • Supporting and driving deliverables pertaining to annual operating planning and strategic workforce planning for the technology organization

  • Developing strategic insights that will drive the technology strategy

  • Performing quantitative and qualitative analysis on core strategic issues

  • Gathering data through research and interviews

  • Planning and executing their own work streams for discrete projects or subsets of projects

  • Generating creative, willing to take action insights and recommendations

  • Ensuring quality control of data/research and preparing presentation materials for senior management

The Manager primarily interacts with members of Schwab's strategy team and partners within the technology organization. Representative project work includes enabling the digital client experience, application modernization, strategic workforce planning, annual operating planning, security as a feature, blockchain opportunities within operations, partner and vendor analysis and selection, data center strategy, driving efficiencies within technology, new product development, collaboration with Fintech firms, promoting innovation, etc.

What you have

  • Minimum 2+ years of work experience, preferably at a top-tier consulting or investment banking firm, internal strategy group of a large organization, or in a product management / product marketing role

  • Prior experience in financial services, including experience with technology strategy with a focus on Agile/DevOps practices, digital/cloud platforms and IT operating models preferred; experience with cybersecurity and data would be a plus

  • Experience with financial markets, fee-based investment advisory market preferred, but not required

  • Experience framing problems, analyzing solutions, building business case models, developing decks, facilitating / participating in meetings, and presenting to small audiences

  • Superior analytical skills, research capabilities and attention to detail

  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as the ability to develop concise and effective communications tailored to specific audiences

  • Ability to work across several projects concurrently

  • Strong and demonstrated teaming skills, especially in cross-functional teams

  • Comfortable in a dynamic and fast-moving work environment

  • Strong academic record from a nationally recognized institution

  • Experience with Tableau, SQL, Alteryx, VBA, Access preferred, but not required
