We are looking for a skilled and professional individual for the Manager Technical Revenue Accounting role. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Technical Accounting and Reporting, this position has a critical and highly visible role in the management and accurate recording of revenue as well as in other critical technical accounting subject areas.

This role has ownership of all aspects of revenue accounting and reporting and must understand, analyze and communicate financial impacts to revenue throughout the organization. You will routinely partner with staff across multiple functions ensuring proper alignment with policies and controls for revenue recognition and reporting in accordance with US GAAP.

In addition to responsibilities related to revenue accounting, the Manager Technical Revenue Accounting will be expected to assist in other technical accounting matters on an as-needed basis.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation of ASC 606 and ASC 842

  • Lead the design, implementation and assessment of the operational effectiveness of revenue accounting including ASC606 related SOX controls

  • Drafting of internal accounting memos for significant transactions

  • Review all new enterprise and managed services customer contracts to ensure consistent application of revenue recognition policies in accordance with relevant accounting literature and Company policy

  • Manage the Company's tiered pricing deferred revenue schedule (including waterfall schedules, revenue releases and any holds); record journal entries related to any holds and releases of deferred revenue

  • Provide guidance and support to various cross-functional teams to assess new service offerings and new vendor contracts, and determine the proper accounting for the contract drafts to ensure that the auditors are aligned with our accounting guidance interpretation

  • Review all significant contracts before such contracts are executed

  • Assist the Accounting Operations Team in the monthly revenue close process to ensure all revenue is recognized in accordance with US GAAP and the Company's revenue recognition policies

  • Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements and automating manual processes

  • Prepare schedules for internal and external reporting as well as outside auditors

  • Address and respond to auditor inquiries

What it takes to catch our eye:

  • 6+ years' experience; ideally within technology / online marketplace industry

  • Prior Technical Revenue accounting experience preferred

  • Knowledge of ASC605, ASC606, ASC842 and other accounting rules relating to software and services revenue recognition

  • CPA

  • Big 4 experience

VIEW JOBS 10/18/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-01-16T00:00 The Senior Manager, Revenue Accounting at Gogo reports to the Senior Director of Revenue and Technical Accounting and is responsible for all aspects of revenue recognition, including revenue assurance, revenue share payables, credit card clearing through payment processors, and revenue SOX controls. The role will also be expected to provide meaningful input to drive revenue process improvements and assist with various aspects of the billing/revenue systems. The role will also have significant interaction with the Senior Manager of Technical Accounting on the application of ASC 606 for Gogo's revenue contracts. COME ON BOARD THE GOGO COMMERCIAL AVIATION REVENUE ACCOUNTING TEAM! How will you make a difference? * Responsible for monthly revenue close, ensuring a timely and accurate revenue close * Maintain the policies and procedures, particularly with respect to revenue recognition, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles * Lead discussions with various airline account teams regarding the data required for accurate and complete revenue recognition/deferral for all revenue streams * Collaborate in cross-functional forums in order to provide guidance about the implementation of new products, services and sales channels * Work closely with Airline Account Managers and the business development team, in order to understand airline/partner agreements and how various revenue streams are shared with external business partners * Participate in the planning, prioritization and implementation of potential changes to the accounting, billing and other financial systems ensuring all relevant business requirements are considered (i.e., revenue, tax, SOX and reporting) * Contribute to the airline contract proposal/review process ensuring proper accounting, billing and partner liabilities treatment * Work with IT departments to insure proper definition/scope of revenue stream/revenue payable requirements * Partner with and provide input to the financial services team who will design and document algorithms for revenue recognition and revenue related payables * Manage a team of revenue accountants responsible for maintaining revenue systems, billing to airline and non-airline customers, recording revenue in accordance with ASC 606 (including multiple-element arrangements) and revenue share * Oversee monthly meetings with Senior Director of Revenue and Corporate Controller to monitor and manage the accounts receivable aging * Maintain and ensure internal controls and accounting processes based on industry best practices, meeting needs of the various business partners * Mentor revenue accounting team and assist in career development Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Accounting * 10 plus years of accounting experience, ideally with a combination of Big 4 public accounting and relevant industry experience * CPA required Required Skills, Experiences & Talents * Experience with monthly revenue processes and systems, including accounting treatment/revenue recognition, invoicing and, ideally, collections/aging monitoring * Experience assessing risk and developing mitigating controls * Experience leading cross-functional teams to successful project completion * Experience coaching and leading teams, including performance feedback and career development * Strong leadership and people development skills * Proficient in MS Office (Access, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Visio and Word) and ERP systems * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Excellent organization skills, and managing multiple priorities * Must be productive in a high demand, fast paced environment Preferred Skills, Experiences & Talents * Experience with credit card clearing and merchant accounts a plus Gogo is the inflight internet company.
