Responsibilities

The manager technical operations collections provide management and daily oversight of quality and technical operations to ensure consistent and compliant operations.

  • Manages, trains, develops and mentors assigned staff.

  • Coach, develop and monitor individual and team performance towards excellence.

  • Prepares and manages departmental budget, expenses, FTE's, labor, and capital expenses.

  • Provides support and/or oversight for all Collections training.

  • Leads the evaluation and implementation of initiatives that provide technical and/or operational solutions that result in increased efficiencies.

  • Collaborates with direct and indirect cross functional partners to promote the effectiveness of delivery and growth of the collection process.

  • Partners with Collections managers, Medical Directors, and Quality/Regulatory to identify deficiencies and develop policies, processes, and procedures compliant with regulatory and accrediting agencies.

  • Reviews all deviation for tracking and trend of performance, ensures error management and customer service reports are generated and provides follow-up. Reviews and approves all follow up actions in electronic error management system. Regularly sends reports to operational supervisors and collection managers.

  • Leads various donor eligibility and deferral protocols and post donation protocols.

  • Oversee post donation quality control processes that confirm the eligibility of collected blood products.

  • Provides oversight or executes the design, development, validation and implementation of new or revised processes.

  • Partners with ancillary departments with the Blood Center to resolve problems and drive towards efficiency - this can include Information Technology, Laboratories and Recruitment.

  • Provides oversight in the resolve of complex problems and issues relating to technology that originate at mobile or fixed locations.

  • Ensures compliance with relevant NYBC, FDA, AABB, OSHA, and CLIA regulations.

  • Ensures coverage for a seven day a week/twenty-four hours operation.

  • Maintain competence in all Collections procedures.

  • Works with trainers to develop new training programs and in-service materials for all collection related subject matter.

  • Monthly self-assessment for Quality Management.

  • Create yearly competencies for donor registration.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of collections equipment in order to ensure methods are written to comply with all regulatory agencies and standards.

  • Support other business units in the creating and revising of Standard Operating procedures for publishing.

  • Prepare various reports.

  • Attends conferences, seminars, as required.

  • Makes recommendations to improve business unit practices and processes.

  • Any related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school degree or equivalent required.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree preferred.

Related Experience

  • 5 years of registration of donors in centers and mobiles, including budget and experience implementing change improvement.

  • 2 years supervisory /management of staff or projects in regulated field.

  • Blood Banking and/or medical environment experience preferred.

  • Registered Nurse preferred.

  • Lean Sigma preferred.

Any combination of education, training and experience that has supplied the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to perform the essential functions of the job.

For applicants who will perform this position in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed annual salary is $100,000.00 p/yr. to $115,000.00 p/yr. For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York City or Westchester County, salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicant's skills, job-related knowledge, and experience.
