Manager, Sterile Processing
GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Receiving general direction from the Director of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD), this position is responsible for assisting in the overall operational and business management of the SPD that supports other areas in the hospital requiring sterile instruments. The functional areas for which the incumbent will be responsible include Decontamination, Instrument Assembly/Prep & Pack and Sterilization.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works closely with senior leadership in the development of operation standards, policies, and procedures.
Reviews feedback from customers (i.e. Main OR), responds, compiles, and analyzes support data and implements procedural changes as appropriate.
Responsible for hiring/firing, and performance management of employees.
Reviews and approves time off requests, completes payroll and monitors attendance.
Assigns and prioritizes workload; evaluates, and standardizes operating procedures and effectively troubleshoots and resolves issues as they arise. Informs staff of inter- and intra- departmental policy and procedure changes.
Supervises the retrieval, editing, and storage of requisitions to ensure proper handling.
Acts as a champion of the SPM Instrument Tracking System. Utilize the system's reporting capabilities to identify opportunities for improvement within the department.
Works closely with senior leadership to develop and maintain fiscal reporting, annual operating and capital budgets.
Ensures the physical environment is maintained. Establishes and enforces fire and safety regulations for the area, following established protocols, and ensuring compliance with JCAHO, OSHA and Hospital guidelines.
Attends and participates in hospital/departmental meetings. Attends seminars and training sessions necessary to maintain appropriate level of professional competence.
Manages daily production and sets priorities for the team to ensure task completion.
Responds to and resolves customer service complaints.
Makes recommendations and assists management in the procurement of medical/surgical supplies and equipment.
Builds customer relationships, interprets customer needs and assesses their business requirements
Identify own areas for development and actively seeks opportunities to strengthen and expand skills and abilities.
Manages projects and special tasks as assigned.
All other tasks as assigned by Director.
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
Adaptable & flexible to work hours, including weekends.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Previous customer service experience.
Possess strong problem solving capabilities.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English).
Experience addressing employee-related issues.
Experience using PeopleSoft, Kronos and SPM preferred.
Self-Motivated, able to work independently with little or no supervision
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS (if applicable):
EDUCATION:
Required:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Knowledge of surgical instruments, sterile processing, tracking systems , OR logistics and scheduling
Preferred:
EXPERIENCE:
Five (5) years direct experience in an Operating Room or Sterile processing
Five (5) years Management experience
