Manager, State Tax

JOB PURPOSE: Overall responsibility for managing state and local income tax planning and audit defense. Provide proactive, timely and high-quality services to business leaders to manage risk, support future growth and contribute to overall shareholder value.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Advise management on the sales and local tax consequences of transactions and possible tax planning opportunities

• Advise management on the impact of new tax laws, court decisions, regulations, rulings and proposed legislation and recommend tax planning alternatives

• Support mergers and acquisitions, including, but not limited to direct and indirect tax exposure analyses, remediation, and integration

• Manage state and local tax audits and all Voluntary Disclosure Agreements

• Oversee relationships with third party law firms in the event of tax litigation

• Identify, develop, coordinate, and implement state and local tax planning opportunities

• Provide tax support to the business regarding product taxability determinations

• Provide tax support to the business including customer invoice and taxability support, customer and vendor contract review, customer exemption certificate advice, and ERP support

• Assist and advise management regarding direct and indirect tax reserves

• Assist in the management of state and local direct tax functions, including compliance and reporting, serving as a technical resource

• Oversee the building of comprehensive processes, ensuring timely, accurate and well documented deliverables

• Assist in management of any federal tax audits

• Support the negotiation and resolution of audit issues; reach the most favorable settlements possible in terms of assessment and professional fees

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in Tax/Accounting or Certified Public Accountant

• 10 years of corporate tax and/or public accounting experience, including 8 years of recent state tax experience

• Excellent analytical skills; detail oriented

• Ability to develop and motivate team members

• Experience with Avalara/TTR preferred

• Commitment to continuous improvement

• Highly effective oral and written communication skills

• Excellent organizational and time management skills

• Proficient with Excel and Word

• Ability to work in Plano office Monday through Friday
