Manager, State Income Tax
I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.
Managing state and local tax compliance preparation process for state tax return filings other than sales taxes (i.e., primarily income tax but potentially including miscellaneous tax reports, various personal property returns, and business license filings); managing state income tax audits (including audit issue resolution); managing state income tax FIN48 reserves, effective state income tax rate, and state income tax planning processes.
II. Essential Job Functions
Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results
Manage State and Local Tax Compliance; Audits;
Manage state and local tax compliance for income tax including responsibility for review of state and local income tax returns and assessment of related tax risks. Manage financial accounting for state and local income taxes (including state ETR and FIN48). Manage state income tax audits and recommend settlement. Identify and implement state income tax planning initiatives.
Support Department and Interdepartmental Projects and Initiatives
Involvement in overall administration and initiatives of the Corporate Tax Department. Serve as project coordinator for major tax issues or other related assignments as directed.
Network with Meredith Operations, Corporate& Governmental Affairs; Media Industry & Tax Community
Participate in industry and taxation networking groups including: Tax Executives Institute, Magazine Publishers of America, Media Industry Tax Group, Council on State Taxation, Iowa Taxpayers Association and Polk-Des Moines Taxpayers' Association. Provide support to Meredith Government Relations in analysis and strategic response to proposed and pending legislation on Federal, state, and local levels. Monitor state tax legislation and compliance of current developments.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Concepts of federal and multi-state income tax reporting, property taxation, and governmental examinations.
Strong understanding of federal and state tax code, regulations, and tax authority administration.
Ability to thrive in a team environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong math and computing skills.
Self-motivation and guidance, organization, attention to detail, recognition of importance and integration of function.
Familiarity with tax provision/return software (preferably CorpTax) a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel; Access Database; Word; PowerPoint).
Familiarity with Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) Controls.
