WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Manager Software Engineering will oversee the development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of software applications in a for-profit organization using multiple technologies.  The development team is responsible for maintenance and development of multiple services/SaaS applications that serve several of our businesses.

The manager facilitates communication between developers and with other leaders, removes impediments, and provides leadership, mentorship, and career development to employees.  This position will partner with other leaders in the organization to coordinate and prioritize backlog for a product and ensure that the process is used properly by their team members.

HOW YOU'LL SPEND YOUR TIME

  • Understand and meet business needs while guiding the duties of a Software Engineering team.

  • Model the culture we want to have: a DevOps mindset with collaborative and agile approach to software development and operations.

  • Ensure team members are operating as efficiently and effectively as possible with their teams.

  • Work with the development teams to ensure the ability to deliver committed work items

  • Handle day-to-day management responsibilities for direct reports.

  • Assist/lead teams' program increment and iteration planning, retrospectives, and demos.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with business and technical staff in on-site and virtual environments.

  • Monitor team progress, track project milestones, and manage potential risks and issues, taking proactive measures to mitigate them.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, promoting innovation and efficiency in development processes.

  • Define and communicate clear Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) for the development teams, ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals. Track and evaluate team performance against OKRs, adjusting strategies as needed to ensure successful outcomes.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Bachelor's degree in computer-related field preferred, or equivalent work experience required

  • 8+ years software development experience

  • 4+ years of Software Development Management experience

  • The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with PHP, .net, C# preferred or extensive experience managing teams using those technologies

  • Experience in .NET, C#, SQL, HTML, and CSS

  • Experience with web frameworks such as Angular or React

  • Experience with Kafka, Docker and Kubernetes is strongly recommended

  • Solid grasp of infrastructural and operational principles

  • Strong experience with agile methodologies and principles

  • Problem-solving skills to lead others during development and incidents

  • Experience with change, problem and incident management processes

  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of the business

  • Must be able to lead a team to self-organization and lead across and up as well as down the formal organization
