The EA Genomics business unit of Q2 Solutions is the global center of excellence in genomic testing and high-performance computation and bioinformatics methodology. Reporting to the Director of Software Development, this position will directly manage the software team responsible for building/enhancing bioinformatic pipelines and transformation of clinical laboratory assays developed in our R&D facility. Within the Translational Genomics department, your focus is on team management and process enforcement to ensure that software products are delivered on time and with a high level of quality, committing to the validity of clinical test results.
Work with Director of software to set goals and objectives as well as resourcing needs to meet those objectives
Actively manages the team to ensure high morale and performance.
This includes setting goals, appraisal of staff performance and development needs.
Works with the team to ensure projects are delivered on time with a high level of quality.
This involves meeting with management of stakeholder teams, ensuring alignment of objectives and goals of delivered product
Champions and ensures compliance to company processes, including the Q2 Solutions Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Identify and orchestrate team connectivity and collaboration for genomics workflows facilitating integration with test reporting and database systems
Support staff to achieve their training and development objectives.
Identify areas that your team needs to develop to meet future business needs, encourage staff to proactively learn the science behind their individual projects.
Programs, tests, and documents systems in accordance with programming standards and validation procedures as mandated.
Job Requirements REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Experience leading small to mid-sized software teams in a corporate setting.
Has a solid understanding of software project management.
Possess an expert knowledge in software development tools, practices, and lifecycle methodologies, including a solid understanding of Agile Scrum methodology.
Able to plan resourcing, cost, timeframes and objectives for projects to present to senior management
Must have solid written and oral communication skills.
Proficiency in one or more of the following: Python, Perl, and or Java.
Familiarity with continuous integration, unit and integrative testing along with release management
Familiarity with SQL, Postgres and databases
Preference given to familiarity with genomics/ bioinformatics tools / pipelines along with Docker/ CWL/ Arvados (pipeline management)
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Extensive use of telephone and face-to-face communication requiring accurate perception of speech
Extensive use of keyboard and mouse requiring repetitive motion of fingers and wrists
Regular sitting for extended periods of time
