Job Introduction:

We are seeking a Manager, Software Development to join our team in Global Finance Technology aligned to the Ledgers and Reinsurance Portfolio and oversee critical customer focused delivery of our core applications.

This role will manage two development teams comprised of developers and analysts who are just beginning their agile transformation, in addition to, embarking on platform modernization. In this role you will partner with the Product Owner and cross functional teams to deliver on the highest value enhancements, address tech department and evolve the technical stack. The Global Finance Technology organization is embarking on a significant, multi-year project to replace the ledger and the reinsurance platform, as well as, other key systems and this role will have the opportunity to be one of the drivers of that effort.

As a member of the leadership team you're there to empower your team and aid them in implementing and influencing a platform based on the latest tools, principles, patterns and practices. The team is responsible for multiple critical applications including the enterprise ledger.

About the job:

  • Manages an application, software development unit and/or portfolio of applications and ensures system, technical and product architectures are aligned with business objectives.

  • Ensures application or portfolio of applications are enhanced and maintained to meet business functional need and vendor product maintenance remains current.

  • Works with customers and technical staff to ensure service level agreements are met, problems are resolved in a timely manner, application enhancements are completed and process and technical improvements are identified and implemented to improve overall operational efficiency.

  • Hires and manages individual contributors; coaches and counsels team members. Defines individual performance objectives and development plans and ensures alignment with organizational objectives. Appraises and evaluates team and individual performance and makes compensation recommendations. Facilitates or provides mentoring experiences.

  • Responsible for unit's workforce and talent management plans, including skills forecasting, staff development, training and succession planning.

  • May establishes financial plan for the application, portfolio or overall unit and manages to plan.

  • Initiates and fosters collaborative partnerships with current and potential clients, IT and business managers, vendors and IT executives; develops relationships that support increasing efficiency and effectiveness.

  • May lead efforts to evaluate, select and implement new technologies to enhance application, until or portfolio.

  • Participates in the development of business and/or IT vision, strategies, critical success factors and operating plans for application, unit or portfolio.

  • Works closely with other managers and teams in Global Finance Technology.

Desired skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in systems operation and administration, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Strong consultative and communication skills, analytical ability, judgment and the ability to work effectively with client and other systems technical staff, consultants and vendors.

  • In-depth knowledge of IT concepts, strategies, and methodologies; thorough knowledge of business functions and operations, objectives and strategies.

  • Knowledge of accounting concepts, financial systems, and Liberty Mutual financial practices preferred.

You will manage up to 15 analysts, developers & scrum masters located in Boston, MA, Dover, NH and Seattle, WA In this role you will: * Build and maintain successful relationships with our business colleagues and internal customers aligned to Agency & Strategic Partnerships. * Create a high level of service through establishment of effective partnerships and ensuring quality and service standards across the teams; analyze and resolve quality and delivery challenges; identify trends; recommend design, development and testing practice improvements * Extend and evolve our agile practice, work with coaches, partners and team members to empower and improve team dynamics and delivery * Lead agile data squad development efforts, together with aligned Scrum Masters and Product Owners. * Be responsible for execution of projects supporting our Agency Sales channel, our Affinity partnership channel and support our internal financial systems used for market analytics. Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science or related field.
