Job Summary

We are currently seeking a hands-on Software Engineering Manager to join the Xfinity Digital Self-Service (DSS) organization, to oversee a team of full-time engineers and contractors -- ranging in experience from entry-level to senior -- who design, develop, and deliver customer-facing user interfaces for account management and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate has strong communication and collaboration skills, a strong technical background, a passion for creating great customer experiences, and deeply understands the value of iterative delivery and iterative change. In this position, you will be responsible for close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including leadership, front-end and back-end developers, UX designers, test engineers, operations engineers, and product managers. As a key technical leader, you will play a crucial role in leading project initiatives. This role requires you to be an independent and critical thinker, and to adapt quickly to changing business and customer demands.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Hands-on manager who oversees the planning and designing of software and web applications (new and existing), and is able to help code and/or review pull requests when needed to ensure pipeline is up to date and that things are continuously moving through the development lifecycle.

  • Provides guidance to the software engineering team and other departments in identifying product and technical requirements, and suggesting viable solutions to a given problem.

  • Supports development team deliverables to ensure adherence to deadlines, specifications, and budgets.

  • Ensures solutions are well-engineered, operable, maintainable, and delivered on schedule.

  • Balance tactical deadline-based delivery with strategic technology ideals, and responsibly incur (and pay down) technical debt.

  • Supporting point of contact and liaison between software engineering and other business and technical teams.

  • Organizes software update process for existing applications and coordinates the roll-out of software releases.

  • Oversees code quality, pattern adherence, and the overall maintainability of the application.

  • Implements performance metrics and prepares period reports and/or proposals.

  • Monitors and tracks project progress and reports findings to leadership team.

  • Evangelist for agile methodologies and iterative change.

  • Actively participates in both internal and external development communities, staying up to date on new software technologies and best practices and shares insights with others in the organization.

  • Helps champion major technology transformation initiatives.

  • Monitors current and future trends, technology and information in the web technology space that will positively affect organizational projects.

  • Acts as a role model and ensures engineers on the team keep current with technological developments within the industry.

  • Provides leadership and direction to department personnel from lower-level managers to non-exempt employees.

  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Oversees the planning and designing of software and web applications, including new programs, enhancements and modifications.

  • Provides guidance to Software Engineering team and other departments in identifying product and technical requirements. Serves as primary point of contact and liaison between Software Engineering and other teams.

  • Directs implementation initiatives for new software products and applications. Organizes software update process for existing applications and coordinates the roll-out of software releases.

  • Manages all the deliverables to ensure adherence to deadlines, specifications and budgets. Implements performance metrics and prepares periodic reports. Monitors and tracks project progress and reports findings to leadership team.

  • Ensures all engineers keep current with technological developments within the industry. Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products.

  • Develops proposals, hardware/software changes and other capital expenditure projects.

  • Manages professional and non-exempt employees, conducting work performance reviews and Ensures work performance is adhering to Company standards. Mentors, trains and develops staff.

  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.

  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education

Bachelor's Degree

While possessing the stated degree is preferred, Comcast also may consider applicants who hold some combination of coursework and experience, or who have extensive related professional experience.
