QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Required:

  • Able to do simple mathematics; Food Manager's Certificate

  • Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver's license and be insurable by the District

Preferred:

  • High school graduate or GED

Technology Proficiency Level 1 - Basic (use of):

  • Computer operations Word processing

  • Data entry

  • Data archiving E-mail

  • Job-related student and/or financial management system

  • CC/SD Acceptable Use Policy and Technology Ethics/Etiquette

Experience:

Required:

  • 1 year of manager training in food preparation and record keeping in CCISD Food Services Department
  • 1 year as cafeteria helper in CCISD Food Services Department

Personal Required:

  • Able to supervise cafeteria employees.

  • Able to organize work to determine production needs and meet meal service deadlines.

  • Knowledge of cooking and temperature techniques and procedures, and how food should look and taste.

  • Maintain high standard of neatness and cleanliness.

  • Able to communicate with students, principals, teachers, parents, and food service personnel.

  • Knowledge of how to use a convection and/or conventional oven, scales, mixers, food chopper, meat slicer, range, steamtable, dish machine, steam jacketed Kettle, computer cash register, and calculator.

  • Relates positively to others.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of individuals.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in appraising situations and making decisions. Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

  • Proactive, self-motivated, and self-directed.

  • Exhibits professionalism.

  • Professional appearance and appropriate attire for job.

  • Demonstrates good judgment and knowledge of District policies and procedures which support the activities of the Department.

FUNCTION:

Under the supervision of the Field Supervisor for Food Services, is responsible for the entire cafeteria operation, including food preparation and service, employee training and supervision, sanitation, record control, forecasting and ordering food and supplies, cashiering and safety.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Responsible for all food preparation daily, including hot lunch and canteen items.

  • Complete daily work schedules and work with employees on proper work methods and procedures. Written instructions should be short, complete and clearly written.

  • Prepare all daily reports, records and deposits.

  • Ensure all money collected is properly deposited on a daily basis.

  • Forecast and order food, supplies, and equipment from central warehouse.

  • Keep inventories as low as possible to keep cost down.

  • Responsible for the proper closing and securing of the cafeteria at the end of the day.

  • Supervise serving counter set up according to steamtable diagram daily.

  • Evaluate daily menu, make suggestions for changes, and determine items to be served on canteen.

  • Cashier and/or help replenish food daily during serving periods.

  • Consult daily with cook on leftover food and how to properly utilize it.

  • Responsible for checking in all food deliveries daily.

  • Ensure that all food received is properly accounted for as sold, leftover or scrapped.

  • Responsible for the final daily cleaning of kitchen, dish room, and dining room.

  • Lift or carry 1 to 40 lbs. frequently, 41 to 60 lbs. occasionally.

  • Bend, stoop and reach above shoulder level occasionally. Work with machinery frequently.

  • Climb ladders occasionally.

  • Walk and sit occasionally. Stand frequently.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise kitchen helpers.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Challenging situations; Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
