Job Description:

As the Quality Coding and Audit Manager, you will manage and evaluate the quality programs for the Health System. Assist in the development of policies, procedures and work instructions for the audit staff.

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Manages quality audit and education operations, including, but not limited to:

  • Hiring, training, disciplining and supervising staff;

  • Develops policies, procedures and work instructions.

  • Evaluating performance and ensuring appraisals are completed on a timely basis;

  • Assessing and making recommendations to improve the efficiency of current systems/processes for all applicable registration and financial services;

  • Processing payroll, maintaining employee records and work schedules, and ensuring adequate coverage at all times;

  • Maintaining daily workflow in order to expedite processing while ensuring quality care and customer service;

  • Keeping informed of and disseminating all pertinent hospital and departmental policies and procedures, JCAHO, and other regulatory agency standards, and insurance requirements and regulations.

  • Manages the financial aspects including, but not limited to:

  • Working closely with the Patient Accounts department and Health Information Management to ensure effective management of patient cases and accurate billing practices;

  • Assessing the front-end inpatient registration and insurance screens; incorporates financial billing requirements;

  • Integrating system needs and requirements based upon the decentralization of services in conjunction with all appropriate departments;

  • Assisting in the preparation and monitoring of the department budget;

  • Monitoring the daily ED and Outpatient registrations for Quality Assurance;

  • Ensuring compliance and integrity of data with billing and regulatory requirements

  • Assumes responsibilities related to patient access services in the absence of the Director.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required. Knowledge of Hospital Administration or related Healthcare field as normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's Degree.

  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in a healthcare setting, two of which are in an admitting or business office function. Minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of related hardware/software, and hospital registration/billing systems, required. SMS INVISION preferred.

VIEW JOBS 11/30/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-28T00:00 Job Description Directs, plans, organizes, coordinates and evaluates the staff and activities for system-wide coding operations to ensure accurate and timely coding of inpatient and outpatient records according to Health System standards, policies and procedures. Directly manages employees involved in coding. Coordinates and evaluates Health System's coding staffing programs and initiatives. Designs and develops programs and procedures to utilize internal employee population and assist in selection and negotiation of staffing vendors. Provides direction for all hospital coding activities and productivity standards required to reach unbilled targets for Health System hospitals. 1. Directs a four day Discharge not Final Billed (DNFB) target for all hospitals within the Health System. 2. Plans, organizes, coordinates and evaluates staffing requirements to meet operational goals. * Manages the assignment and schedules of direct reports to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow. * Identifies opportunities for efficiencies, reviews and implements as approved. 3. Reviews strategic operating goals, objectives and budgets to predict labor needs and ensure coding services meet productivity, timeliness and quality standards to support financial goals of the Health System. * Reviews operational performance, justification and/or corrective action for the Revenue Cycle Integrity department staff. * Provides guidance and motivation to staff regarding identifying activities/ areas where performance can be improved. * Ensures collaboration between the Clinical Documentation Improvement and Coding function is optimal to achieve the excellence required. 4. Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure clear and consistent operations of coding areas while encompassing departmental and operational needs. 5. Ensures integrity of encoder and abstracting systems by maintenance/revision of data as necessary. * Oversees the implementation and ongoing operation or selection of electronic coding or documentation improvement software, interfaces with billing systems and workflow changes with computerized patient information. 6. Identifies training needs for coding and operations staff. Collaborates with Education and Training to schedule and implement training activities as identified, including transition to ICD-10 and EHR. 7. Assists with business development for remote coding. 8. Provides leadership throughout the Health System with regards to coding inquiries. 9. Collaborates with Business offices to eliminate holds on accounts. 10. Participates in negotiation of vendor contracts to ensure compliance with Health System requirements. Reviews and monitors Health System contract services, and ensures system-wide and vendor compliance. Reports on issues and makes recommendations for changes. * Review and approve remote coding vendor billing information in preparation for the submission of invoices to Accounts Payable. 11. Ensures coding tools including codebooks, groupers, encoders and other software applications, official coding guidelines, dictionaries, texts and other resource materials are available for coding staff. 12. Selects, develops, manages and evaluates direct reports; and oversees the selection, development, management and evaluation of indirect reports. Develops and implements programs and policies to efficiently utilize staff within the department. Performs new employee orientation including scheduling, training, Kronos set up and submission, ordering equipment and supplies. 13. Performs related duties, as required * ADA Essential Functions Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or related field, required. Master's Degree, preferred. * Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Professional (CPC), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification, preferred. * Minimum of seven (7) years progressively responsible health information management, program management, required. * Knowledge of coding software and computer skills in Microsoft Office and products Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access. * Demonstrated project management skills, required. * Excellent oral and written communication skills, required.
