The Role:

ChannelAdvisor is looking for a strong people-first leader with excellent understanding of revenue recognition to join our accounting team as Revenue Accounting Manager. The successful candidate will be passionate about motivating people, developing talent and building high performing teams. This individual will have a history of driving process improvements that enable scaling with future growth as well as a track record of successful project management.

The Revenue Accounting Manager will report to the Corporate Controller and own all aspects of global revenue recognition to ensure accurate accounting and reporting of revenue in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. The successful candidate will lead the Revenue Accounting function and provide guidance on technical revenue accounting transactions to staff in a non-standard Software as a Service (SaaS) environment. (S)He will also lead the Billing Operations function. Successful candidate will be a good communicator who is able to work closely with multiple departments.

What you will be doing:

  • Prioritizing the continuous growth and development of revenue accounting team;

  • Leading the day-to-day revenue accounting and billing operations functions, including: ensuring the timely processing, review and approval of contract accounting, journal entries, credit memo requests, termination approvals and other revenue accounting transaction to ensure accurate and timely processing;

  • Leading the day-to-day billing operations function to ensure that Customer invoices are accurate and disseminated in a timely manner;

  • Leading the month-end financial close procedures for revenue and ancillary accounts including preparing complex journal entries, reviewing staff journal entries, account reconciliations and schedules as well as reporting;

  • Reviewing work of staff members including accounting for complex contracts and identifying pertinent information to ensure staff understand the appropriate accounting for revenue transactions consistent with the Company's revenue recognition policies and US GAAP;

  • Working with non-standard transactions and evaluating appropriate accounting for new product offerings and make recommendations to senior leaders and staff;

  • Taking primary ownership of reviewing Deferred Revenue transaction including working with leaders across multiple departments to confirm timing of project completions as well as overseeing the accounting and reconciliation of Deferred Revenue accounts;

  • Taking a lead role in the preparation of quarterly and year-end schedules to support financial statement audits; You will be the primary liaison to external auditors including international statutory auditors on revenue and ancillary matters;

  • Collaborating with various departments including sales, legal, business operations, and services to resolve issues and identify revenue recognition/deferral as appropriate;

  • Taking primary responsibility for establishing and maintaining controls around revenue and ancillary processes to ensuring continuous compliance with internal controls and established procedures;

  • Collaborating with SEC Reporting to prepare all revenue and ancillary disclosures for filling in the Company's Form 10-K and 10-Q;

  • Completing ad hoc reporting and additional project requests as assigned or necessary;

  • Working directly with Customers and other departments to consistently deliver superior customer service as well as to support company initiatives;

  • Providing general accounting expertise, training, supervision and technical resource for staff members;

  • Working with FP&A to support revenue forecasting efforts as necessary;

  • Proactively identifying ways to shorten financial close timelines while maintaining quality work output and delivering high quality service to internal and external stakeholders;

Skills/Experiences you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related discipline;

  • Certified Public Accountant;

  • Minimum of 7 years of hands on professional accounting experience in a corporate environment;

  • Minimum of 4 years experience supervising Accounting and Finance professionals;

  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) especially as it relates to ASC 606 Revenue From Contracts With Customers

  • Strong analytical and accounting skills;

  • Ability and passion for leading the continued technical and professional development of team;

  • Must be able to thrive in a fast paced and deadline driven environment;

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills;

  • Ability to work with non-standard transactions and evaluate appropriate accounting for new product offerings;

  • Ability to review high volumes of transactions with attention to detail and accuracy (accuracy is a must);

  • Ability to represent the Accounting/Finance department favorably with other departments and external third parties including auditors and customers;

Skills/Experiences that will give you an edge:

  • Experience using NetSuite;

  • Big 4 accounting experience a plus;

  • A positive, can-do attitude and passion for working collaboratively;

  • Experience working with publicly traded company

  • Experience working in a fast-paced software/technology company
