The College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences is seeking a Manager, Research Development and Strategic Support to join the College's research administration team. The College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences is the largest of UVA's ten schools and the research administration team provides comprehensive research support throughout the grant life cycle. We anticipate hiring multiple managers; one manager will provide support to the Science departments and one manager will provide support for the Social Sciences and Arts and Humanities departments. These are new positions, and we anticipate the managers will take an active role in creating the research development program in Arts & Sciences.

This role may be hybrid or remote with the expectation of attendance at several in-person trainings and/or events each year.

Responsibilities:

  • Advise PIs on internal and external funding opportunities, sponsor expectations, and best practices for successful proposal development

  • Create and conduct proposal development trainings for faculty to enhance competitiveness of proposal submissions and diversify sponsors supporting A&S research

  • Develop and implement proposal guidance documents

  • Work with PIs and staff in the VPR's Research Development Office to facilitate development of proposals for complex funding opportunities

  • Facilitate strategic planning with faculty on research initiatives and proposal opportunities

  • Work with Dean's office leadership team to a ssess the appropriateness and potential for success for new research opportunities

  • Collaborate with internal UVA research offices on strategic research initiatives and activities

  • Develop and maintain a library of core proposal documents (biosketch templates, other support, facilities, equipment, and other resources statements etc.)

  • Lead internal seed grant processes (writing solicitations, managing review and award process)

  • Connect faculty with appropriate support within the research ecosystem at UVA

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Master's degree or Bachelor's degree and ten years of experience required

Experience: Seven years of relevant experience required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing and/or implementing proposal development training for existing and potential Principal Investigators

  • Prior experience working with a variety of federal and non-federal funding sources

  • Demonstrated experience with preparing Principal Investigators to submit research proposals

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Effective and professional communication skills and experience working with a variety of Principal Investigators with diverse research interests

  • Well-organized, with the ability to work independently and think creatively

This position is located in Charlottesville, VA. This position is eligible for a hybrid and/or remote work environment with occasional in-person trainings or meetings, dependent upon department needs and incumbent's performance.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $85,000 - $100,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience. This is an Exempt level, benefited position.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
