Senior Manager, Quality Assurance

This position is responsible for supporting manufacturing compliance. The scope of the position involves assurance that all existing JMS Pet Plants are following all JMS Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory standards. This position interacts with operations, supply chain, marketing, R&D, procurement and production planning groups on a frequent basis. This position acts as a liaison between JMS Supply Chain and cross-functional teams to improve food safety and quality.


  • Manage quality and food safety expectations for JMS manufacturing sites which includes but not limited to: Lead continuous improvement through auditing, root cause investigations and CAPA (Corrective Actions/Preventative Action) follow up

  • Assisting site with food safety plan development, implementation and routine reviews / updates; audit corrective action follow-up

  • Provide technical support to Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, Demand Planning, Logistics and Research & Development Teams: Including, but not limited to Integrated Pest Management, Consumer Complaint Reduction, Material and Ingredient vendor performance, Finished Product Attributes and Product Cuttings

  • Smucker Quality Management System (SQMS) Operational Quality SME/Technical Resource for Quality Pillar development, implementation and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) performance management

  • Conduct Quality Assurance/Key Element Audits (QAKE) at JMS manufacturing locations per defined audit schedule

  • Provide QA support to JMS manufacturing locations during new quality/food safety initiatives



  • A Bachelor's Degree in Science, Engineering or related technical field is required


  • At least 3 years of quality or technical services experience in a food manufacturing environment is required

  • At least 5 years of quality, technical services or R&D experience in a pet food manufacturing environment is preferred

  • Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (human or animal food) or HACCP experience is required

  • Prior experience using SQMS and/or HPO tools to deliver business results is preferred

  • Experience working with cross functional projects, including R&D and operations, is preferred


  • Solid working knowledge of quality assurance, food manufacturing, packaging, processing and distribution

  • Strong ability to work in cross-functional & team-oriented environment with multiple disciplines

  • Experience in training, facilitation and leading groups

  • Proven capabilities in the area of project management

  • Self-starter; take charge, positive & proactive attitude

  • Ability to lead several projects altogether and simultaneously

  • A working knowledge of FDA regulations (FSMA) and GFSI Certification Programs (BRC, SQF, FSSC22000, etc.)

  • Detail & process oriented with strong problem resolution abilities

  • Direct or In-direct management of reports

  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, (PDM) Product Data Management (Ex: Prodika- Oracle), etc.)

  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the work schedule is required
