Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Plan, organize, lead, and control laboratory operations to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of their employees, processes, projects, and laboratory.

  • Communicate goals to employees and motivate employees to reach each objective. Set appropriate deadlines and check in with employees to ensure they're making progress.

  • Manage performance to attain targets for key performance indicators and make strategy adjustments as necessary.

  • Oversee laboratory work flow, execution and performance monitoring.

  • Create and manage team schedules.

  • Review and approve laboratory test results/packets.

  • Facilitate the resolution of issues within the laboratory - including those related to instruments, equipment, and methods.

  • Lead, perform and/or approve laboratory investigations.

  • Review and approve Standard Test Methods, SOP's, specifications, and protocols.

  • Function as laboratory representative during Health Authority audits, vendor audits and internal audits.

  • In partnership with the Human Relations department, responsible for interviewing, hiring, conducting performance reviews, implementing corrective action, and working to resolve employee issues.

  • Works as part of laboratory management team in setting priorities and meeting company goals.

The minimum qualifications for this role are:

  • Minimum BS in Chemistry, a working knowledge of analytical chemistry, experience working in a GXP laboratory and 8 years of experience. Less experience may be considered in combination with an advanced degree.

  • Must possess strong deductive reasoning, coupled with effective management skills.

  • Strong people skills to contribute on Quality issues between departments.

  • Requires solid scientific reasoning and effective communication skills.

  • Proven problem solving, supervisory and organizational skills.

  • Proven teaching/training skills.
