The Project Management Organization (PMO) function accelerates the delivery of innovative medicines to patients by driving portfolio strategy and program excellence through insight-based decision-making. The Project Management Leader (PML) represents the primary PMO interface to the Janssen R&D Compound Development Teams (CDTs).
The PML has the following three key areas of responsibility to deliver program outcomes:
Creatively drive CDT decision making
Operationalizes the CDT Strategy
Optimizes the CDT Operating Environment
PMLs are guided in all matters by our J&J Credo values and our Leadership Performance Standards and include the following KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Co-Lead the CDT/sub-teams to meet or exceed the team goals by providing global cross-functional operational leadership in a matrix organization. This includes optimizing plans through constructive challenge and continuous dialog with the different functions to ensure all activities are aligned with team goals and objectives.
With Support, drive insight generation, interpretation, and implementation to facilitate decision making and strategy refinement
Holds the cross-functional team accountable to develop and deliver the governance-approved compound development plan within budget, timelines, and scope
With support, navigate the team through the complexities of drug development and JRD to obtain strategy approval and secure necessary resources
Deploy core PML methodologies, tools, and frameworks to operationalize the strategy
Ensure the right team capabilities, working styles, resiliency, and ability to deliver under pressure with support
Foster team confidence and safeguard team performance through coaching and periodic reviews of team health
They will also be responsible for visualization of the Compound Development Plan, ensuring that the assessment leveraged appropriate benchmarks and metrics to inform timing and costs of the development plan. Documentation of all assumptions, risk tables, resourcing summary (e.g., BART book) and sign-off on inputs from team members and across JRD and determining if these are ready for Business Development/Therapeutic Area leadership review.
BS degree in life sciences, engineering, or business management is required. A Ph.D./PharmD or other advanced degrees in a related scientific degree/qualification is preferred.
With at least 1 year of experience in project management, team leadership, and/or functional line management in one or more of the major R&D functions OR at least 5 years equivalent industry experience with 1 year in project management.
A minimum of three (3) years of successful performance as a project manager (or equivalent experience in a similar drug development role in other departments or companies)
The successful management of two or more governance stage-gate decisions is required.
A proven track record of Leadership demonstrating improvement in the quality or efficiency of Company processes, and/or that lead to new capabilities within an organization.
A Demonstrated ability to lead a cross-functional teams is required.
Cross-functional experience is required.
