The Manager Product is responsible for managing the technology lifecycle of new products, features or enhancements from conceptualization, requirements gathering, product specification, implementation, review and release. Together with a team of product managers, this role evaluates technical options and represents business and customer requirements to the engineering organization, along with managing the product roadmap. The Manager leads a team of product managers responsible for developing, managing and optimizing one or more small to medium-sized products.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and day-to-day direction to execute on short-term objectives for overall management of designated line of product(s) through the full product lifecycle, including the creation and execution of new products and features as well as enhancements, extensions and retirements of existing products. Ensure the mission and the values of the client are represented and incorporated throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Take part in creating an operating model that ensures agile product delivery teams have the clarity and support they need to maximize product value and overall return on investment.

  • Partner and collaborate closely with leaders, P&L Owners, Technology, Marketing, Client Success, Sales, and Operations Support partners and other CAPG leaders to ensure successful product strategy, design, delivery, and implementation efforts.

  • Ensure their team is delivering on targeted financial, strategic, and operational short to mid-term commitments.

  • Oversee short-term workforce and staffing plans and ensure availability of human capital necessary to accomplish planned business results.

  • Maintain an understanding of competitive position, target market and overall industry landscape that supports the work to define and create product(s).

  • Leverage specialized understanding of our product capabilities and product offerings as well as marketplace trends to inform and help guide our overall product strategy in a rapidly changing digital landscape.

  • Use influence and contribute to Cox Automotive Product thought leadership within area leadership regarding operational matters.

  • Foster effective business relationships with all internal and external partners, vendors and stakeholders.

  • Actively develop talent within the team.

  • Lead and resolve business issues or problems that have department wide impact for short-term operational goals.
    TECHNICAL/FUNCTIONAL SKILLS

  • INNOVATION: Manages the innovation pipeline and executes innovation processes. Develops, evolves and adapts innovation tools, processes and infrastructures to drive the process of innovation. Identifies resources and capabilities needed to support innovation. Encourages and motivates innovation communities, teams and individuals to share creative ideas and learn from failures. Manages and facilitates the communication and open flow of creative ideas between interested parties and the set-up of innovation networks and communities.

  • REQUIREMENTS & DEFINITION MGT: Contributes to selection of the requirements approach for projects, selecting appropriately from predictive (plan-driven) approaches or adaptive (iterative/agile) approaches. Defines and manages scoping, requirements definition and prioritisation activities for initiatives of medium size and complexity. Facilitates input from stakeholders, provides constructive challenge and enables effective prioritisation of requirements. Reviews requirements for errors and omissions. Establishes the requirements base-lines, obtains formal agreement to requirements, and ensures traceability to source. Investigates, manages, and applies authorised requests for changes to base-lined requirements, in line with change management policy.

  • PRODUCT MGT: Manages the full product lifecycle to ensure that, over time, the needs of customers/users continue to be met and that financial and other benefits are achieved. Acts as owner/champion for one or more products or services. Selects, adopts and adapts appropriate product development methods, tools, and techniques selecting appropriately from predictive (plan-driven) approaches or adaptive (iterative/agile) approaches. Analyses market and/or user research, feedback, expert opinion and usage data to understand needs and opportunities. Develops product propositions and determines product positioning and variants for different customer and user segments. Prioritises product requirements and owns the product backlog. Coordinates trials and product launches and supports communications and training. Anticipates changes in customer/user needs; adapts products, and creates product retirement and transitioning plans.

  • PORTFOLIO MGT: Ensures that programme/project leads and/or service owners adhere to the agreed portfolio management approach and timetable and that they provide the appropriate information to agreed targets of timelines and accuracy. Produces reports as appropriate for portfolio governance, including making recommendations for changes to the portfolio.

  • PERFORMANCE MGT: Supervises individuals and teams. Allocates routine tasks and/or project work. Provides direction, support and guidance as necessary, in line with individuals skills and abilities. Monitors progress against agreed quality and performance criteria. Acts to facilitate effective working relationships between team members.

  • Other duties as needed or required

    Qualifications:

  • Requires BS/BA degree in related discipline. An advanced degree is a plus

  • 7+ years of experience with at least 1 - 2 years experience in a management or lead role

  • Applies leadership experience building and leading high performing teams that consistently meet or exceed team and business goals in a fast-paced, high change, matrixed organization.

  • Applies knowledge in business, product performance and industry principles, practices, and procedures.

  • Working knowledge for SAFe Agile Methodology.

  • Serves as point of contact and/or source of technical knowledge in primary discipline or technical area.

  • Working experience in design, development and implementation of product plans.

  • Working experience in full product lifecycle methodologies.

  • Working experience in creating, prioritizing and recommending epics and features.

  • Working experience in conducting competitive research and analysis.

  • Working experience in identifying KPIs and other analytics to measure product value.

  • Working experience with leadership presentations.

  • Working experience in working with a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
