The Ferring Research Institute was established in San Diego, California in 1996 as the company's center of excellence for peptide research. More than 70 people work at its state-of-the-art research facility located in the heart of the Southern California biopharmaceutical community.


The full-time member of the US Procurement function is the main interface toward third party suppliers. The candidate will manage the procurement process for lab supplies, equipment, service contracts, and capital equipment, IT Hardware/Software for the US Research Lab Facility.


  • Lead procurement activities for Lab Equipment, Instruments/Consumables, Capital Equipment, Service Contracts, IT Hardware and Software

  • Negotiate and finalize contracts together with FRI Business Development, QA, Legal & Compliance Departments to ensure cross departmental alignment with respect to processes and policies for contract development, approval, execution and management; Ensure duly authorized sign-off of contracts (internally and with third party)

  • Partner with suppliers to develop and foster strong relationships with preferred/alliance suppliers to ensure clear communication, create an environment of partnership, and agreed-to contractually committed levels of service, quality, delivery, and cost

  • Complete purchase requests with domestic and international suppliers by inputting purchase orders, expediting deliveries, and verifying transactions

  • Handle correspondence concerning over-shipments, delivery shortages, changes in quantity, delivery dates, and prices and report such changes to the interested parties in a timely manner as required

  • Responsible for all buying for local site


  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent, 7 years minimum experience in procurement, category management and contract management in pharmaceutical industry

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong presentation skills as this role requires the ability to communicate and connect with all levels of the organization

  • Strong negotiations skills and decision-making ability to purchase goods or services in alignment with the objectives of the organization

  • Comprehensive understanding of purchasing processes and knowledge of best practices for sourcing, supplier management and procure-to-pay

  • Experience in working with biology/chemistry teams required

  • Strong analytical skills to identify savings opportunities

  • Ability to influence, motivate and collaborate across all functional business lines

  • Results oriented, self-starter, team player, effective leader and keen on working in cross-cultural working environment.

The Business Procurement Manager ensures alignment of procurement goals with assigned business. The associate in this role works across both Procurement and the assigned businesses, and leverages strong business acumen and analytic capability to integrate sourcing, category and business strategies as well as the procure to pay process. The Business Procurement Manager supports and manages governance processes on direct and indirect spend for the assigned business. * 20% - Builds credibility and collaborative business relationships at the business level with the assigned business, function or region ensuring governance across direct and indirect spends. Partners with a wide range of procurement leaders and associates to bring together a comprehensive procurement perspective for the stakeholders. * 60% - Collaborate with key stakeholders and ensures business needs and key strategies are integrated into leveraged category spend and that there is a clear value proposition for the assigned business to implement sourcing strategies. Works with other procurement associates to encourage consensus among various stakeholder groups and achieve objectives. Actively identifies gaps, proposes and implements changes necessary to holistically address opportunities that improves BD's position in quality, cost, service, risk and innovation, which may be related to supplier, processes or other commercial issues. Effectively uses all change tools to facilitate adoption of change. Responsibilities: * This associate has direct accountability for the customer relationship management of a business, function or region, engaged at the appropriate level within the assigned business, region or function. * Business Procurement Manager is responsible for speaking on behalf of the procurement function regarding all relevant categories and functional initiatives.
