Department Summary

The Technology Operations team oversees the design, development, implementation, maintenance, enhancement, and operations of IT platforms, systems, and applications in service of administrative units. The team also monitors the effectiveness and service delivery standards of these technologies to ensure business outcomes are met through innovative technologies.

Additionally, the team focuses on process improvement and service excellence to key campus customers.The Physical Plant & Environmental Safety Products team oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a suite of products essential for campus operations, safety, emergency management, and environmental quality control. The team stays up to date on emerging technologies and industry best practices, recommending improvements to campus operations.

Position Summary

The Manager, Physical Plant & Environmental Safety Products will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of custom developed and off-the-shelf facilities management, environmental health and safety products, emergency management systems, and services that enable well-maintained and safe workplaces for the UCLA community (e.g., maintenance management, purchasing, space inventory, campus mapping, environmental safety, emergency management) and general operations (e.g., PCI compliance, cybersecurity and accessibility compliance). The Manager, Physical Plant & Environmental Safety Products will serve as a pivotal liaison between their team, the user community, and broader ITS functional teams. This leader will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the cross-functional product team including product owners, full-stack developers, systems administrators, and business systems analysts, offering guidance, managing project timelines, and ensuring the optimal allocation of resources, while also serving as a liaison between the team and ITS leadership.

Guided by a deep understanding of customer needs and market trends, the Director will drive product development to meet strategic objectives and create a significant impact for end-users. The Manager, Physical Plant & Environmental Safety Products will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by enabling IT platforms, systems, and applications in service of the institution's academic, research and service mission. This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCLA's vision while modeling UCLA's culture and values.

Salary & Compensation

  • UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

Qualifications

Five years Experience working in one or more of the following fields: information technology, computer science, management, higher education, higher education auxiliary services, physical plant services, environ (Required) Two years Experience leading teams in a management or leadership role, particularly in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment, or a related field. (Required) Experience conducting in-depth research and analysis to identify and recommend best practices for emerging technologies and product improvement. (Required) Demonstrated experience presenting complex technical information to audiences of technical and non-technical stakeholders. (Required) Extensive experience solving technical and non-technical problems; able to delegate solutioning when appropriate to the proper resources. (Required) Demonstrated experience providing inclusive leadership of others, cultivating an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. (Required) Seven or more years Experience working in one or more of the following fields: information technology, computer science, management, higher education, higher education auxiliary services, physical plant services, environ (Preferred) Five or more years Experience leading teams in a management or leadership role, particularly in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment. (Preferred) Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university. (Preferred) Understanding of facilities management and maintenance systems, physical plant, and environmental safety products. (Required)Understanding of how programs relate to other business strategies and initiatives. (Required)Ability to develop and implement strategic roadmaps that align with organizational goals and user needs. (Required)Advanced written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate work assignments to medium-sized teams. (Required)Demonstrated leadership / management skills, including abilities in persuasion, negotiation, change management, and mentorship. (Required)Advanced project management skills with demonstrated experience delegating responsibility, tracking project progress, supervising others, and advising teams on competing priorities. Significant experience working in a project-based environment using leading project management practices. (Required)Able to lead data gathering efforts seeking information from multiple and diverse sources. Experience operating as a point of escalation. Demonstrated understanding of how decisions affect teams. Demonstrated ability to make decisions with integrity. (Required)Inspires creativity in others and advises teams on industry-leading practices, such as the incorporation of new technologies or processes. Has demonstrated experience leading in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

Bachelor's Degree Information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration, communications, or a related field, or equivalent combination of experience/training. Special Conditions for Employment

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that includes regular visits to campus as needed (for those who work remotely, travel/lodging expenses are not eligible for reimbursement).

The anticipated pay range for this position is $139,099 - $160,127, annually; salary is dependent upon the skills and experience of the selected finalist.
