UNC Eye Centers is
seeking an Ophthalmic Manager, COT with exceptional interpersonal skills and
leadership competences to manage and coordinate subspecialty work assignments
and work flows in the clinics to provide optimal patient care and provider
support. The OM will collaborate with other clinical support teams
ensuring that the full scope of patient service is achieved. The

The Ophthalmic Manager
supervises a multi-level technician team including COT, COA, OA, and Scribe
positions for 4 locations. The manager is responsible for all
technician HR and educational tasking including skills assessment, teaching,
time and attendance, productivity reporting, performance review, corrective
action, goal planning, educational curriculum, hiring for excellence model, and
health and safety compliance.
The Ophthalmic Clinical
Manager performs skilled technical work; gathering detailed patient history
information, performing a variety of ophthalmic screening tests and providing
the initial interpretation of screening tests to the Ophthalmologist for
review. The OM performs routine and advanced technical procedures
involving a variety of sophisticated ophthalmic equipment. Additionally, this position performs multiple
Ophthalmic imaging procedures for diagnosis, research and documentation
including anterior and posterior segment optical coherence tomography, color
fundus photography, fluorescein/ICG angiography with both a fundus camera and a
scanning laser ophthalmoscope, and external photography. The
Ophthalmic Technician Manager will ensure accuracy and HIPAA compliance of
patient records of the technician team.
This valued professional
will serve on the UNC Department of Ophthalmology Outpatient Taskforce
Committee, and will attend the UNCMC Outpatient Leadership
meetings. The OM will participate in our annual UNC Eye Syposium for
the Technician Continuing Education Session as a presenter and teacher,
providing hands-on instruction in the second session. Maintaining a
steadfast focus on health and safety for our patients and employees is
critical. The Ophthalmic Manager is empowered by our Chairman and
Medical Director to lead the technician team through complex problem solving,
facilitate work flow barriers, and to train and implement UNCHCS initiatives
utilizing all available resources.
The Ophthalmic Manager
may be responsible for other job-related tasks beyond those listed in the
High School Diploma or GED. Eight (8) years of experience performing ophthalmic screening exams. Three (3) years of experience leading/managing clinic flow of a multi-physician ophthalmology practice.
Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification.
