Required Qualifications

Working knowledge and hands-on experience with semiconductor fabrication processes and related equipment
Experience building and managing cross-functional teams
Ability to handle multiple priorities and optimize solutions for multiple stakeholders
Ability to maintain productive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external customers
Preferred Qualifications
An advanced degree in microelectronics, engineering, physics, or another closely related discipline that involves cleanroom usage.
Research experience working in a cleanroom facility for microelectronic device fabrication
Department/College Description
Built in 1985 to support the first ABET accredited undergraduate program in Microelectronic Engineering, the Semiconductor and Microsystems Fabrication Laboratory offers processing resources and technical expertise in the design and development of microsystems to industrial and academic customers. In addition to being a fabrication resource providing process services, the SMFL offers various levels of facility use for research and development activity. Customers have the option of using the 10,000 sq ft of Class 1000, 100 and 10 cleanroom space for its process resources only, or interacting with SMFL staff and/or RIT faculty and students.
Job Summary
The operations manager oversees the Semiconductor Nanofabrication Laboratory - a cleanroom facility that is used by researchers, instructors, students, and industry partners. Reporting to the dean of engineering, the operations manager works with a faculty advisory board to develop and implement a vision for expanding the capabilities and customer base of the facility.
The manager supervises a staff of four engineers and technicians involved with day-to-day operations, maintenance, repairs, and equipment installation. Additional areas of responsibility include financial management, safety, and user training.
Creating a user-friendly environment that is responsive to customers' needs is central to the operation manager's role. As the outward face to all customers, they foster a collaborative and inclusive culture to ensure that all users feel welcomed, valued, and supported.
As a manager, they promote a team-oriented culture that encourages the sharing of ideas and strives for continuous improvement. By maintaining an open-door policy and actively seeking input from the community, the operation manager ensures that the Semiconductor Nanofabrication Laboratory is a place where innovation and learning thrive.
