Cornell Retail Services is part of the division of Student and Campus Life (SCL) which inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic, and personal evolution. Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters including public service, health, wellness, social justice, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations including sorority and fraternity life. We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad.

Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Business Development & Vendor Programs, the Manager of Visual Merchandising & Customer Engagement will be a visionary leader for Cornell Retail Services (CRS) developing visual merchandising strategies for The Cornell Store's physical store locations, e-commerce websites, and social media channels. This work includes enhancing the aesthetic appeal and profitability of the physical retail spaces by creating and deploying visual strategies and captivating displays that showcase products, engage customers, and inspire buying decisions.

Additionally, in close partnership with the Sr. Manager of E-commerce & Retail Marketing/Communications, this role will manage CRS's customer engagement tools including development and implementation of dynamic social media strategies across various platforms that increase brand awareness, drive online traffic, and foster meaningful engagement. Working with both frontline, marketing and student staff, this position will ensure visual consistency and storytelling across retail channels as well as help align other e-commerce, marketing, and promotional goals. By curating high-quality content that resonates with our audience, both in-store and online, this position will ensure a cohesive brand experience that leaves a lasting impression and cultivates loyalty among the CRS customer base.

A successful Manager of Visual Merchandising & Customer Engagement will:

  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trust, negotiate consensus quickly, and maintain a strong rapport with internal and external constituents.

  • Demonstrate superior task and project management, using organizational skills to provide proficient delegation of responsibility under tight and changing deadlines or priorities.

  • Design and implement engagement strategies to increase customer interaction and loyalty both in-store and online.

  • Be creative and show understanding of our brand identity to conceptualize visually appealing displays that effectively showcase products in-store and online.

  • Have a passion for developing creative and dynamic content and visual displays that are appealing to a global customer base.

  • Place a high value on accuracy and hold high standards for quality and service.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, Visual Merchandising, Customer Experience or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proven experience in visual merchandising preferably in the retail industry

  • Demonstrated proficiency in customer engagement across multiple platforms.

  • Strong creative vision and ability to translate ideas into compelling visual concepts.

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

  • Proven experience connecting diversity inclusion and wellbeing practices to business goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Canva and/or other content creation tools.

  • Experience using Google Analytics, Meta Business Suite or other reporting tools.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The successful applicant will be expected to work on campus.
