Job Title: Manager of Student-Run Stores

Full/Part Time: Full-Time

Campus: Post Campus

Reports To: Chief of Student Experience and Special Projects

Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities:

The Manager of Student-Run Stores will manage the Shark Nation Spirit Store and Roosevelt House Gift Shop, two of the student-run businesses at Long Island University's Post Campus. The Manager will oversee all operations of each store, advise volunteer student officers, manage federal work-study sales associates, and collaborate with university stakeholders to ensure key performance indicators are met.

Principal Student-Run Businesses Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the operations of the Shark Nation Spirit Store and Roosevelt House Gift Shop, including but not limited to visual merchandising and digital media, purchasing and inventory, and maintenance of the Shopify POS platform and all related devices.

  • Serve as an advisor for the student-run business executive officers, holding regular meetings and one-on-one meetings.

  • Work with student officers to coordinate hours of operation, student payroll, hiring processes and other human resources matters.

  • Work with student officers to set a standard for recruiting, hiring, training, guest services, visual merchandising, and store operations.

  • Develop a marketing and growth strategy to promote the businesses, enhance student engagement, increase sales and promote opportunities for new businesses.

  • Conduct regular training for student officers and student workers that provide professional development and experiential learning opportunities.

  • Create and maintain incentives for student employees and officers that include resume and cover letter support, alumni networking, personal mentorship, and other incentives to participate.

  • Maintain the integrity of all student-run business facilities, coordinating all work orders, maintenance concerns, and infrastructure enhancements.

  • Approach all aspects of the role with an evolution, CSR and cost-conscious mindset to continue to elevate existing processes.

  • Provide regular reporting on profits/losses, business initiatives, inventory, and budgets.

  • Oversee editing of existing policies and procedures to ensure relevancy in today's business.

  • Act as a partner between customers, sales associates, store leadership, corporate business partners, and other stakeholders to promote the overall success of the program.

  • Plan large-scale programming and events that help to market and promote the program and businesses.

  • Represent the student-run businesses at University events and admissions functions.

  • Assist in pre-enrollment, admissions, orientation, campus, and career activities reinforcing the importance of a collective, integrated college experience geared toward academic and career success.

  • Help create a welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

  • Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor, student affairs leadership, and senior University leadership.

Education Requirements:

A bachelor's degree required. A master's degree in higher education, student affairs, business administration, or a related field is preferred.

Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience:

Qualified applicants will have:

  • Experience working in higher education, student affairs, business, or a related field is preferred.

  • Supervisory experience is preferred.

  • Experience working with the Shopify platform is preferred.

  • Clear evidence of leadership in and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and a record of working collaboratively with constituencies with diplomacy, empathy, and tact.

  • Sensitivity to and demonstrated an understanding of the needs of a diverse student body.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with sound judgement and decision-making.

  • High energy and enthusiasm to work with students to propel them toward success.

  • Ability to design and implement innovative programs with a strong attention to detail.

  • Basic computer proficiency is required.

Working Conditions:

Flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, are required to properly execute the position's role. Occasional travel to/from other LIU campuses for the facilitation of trainings, meetings and other university functions.
