The Office of Health Affairs within the West Virginia University Health Sciences Center ia seeking applications for a Manager of Research Support. (Research Specialist Senior). This position provides organizational leadership for collaborative activities involving the Health Sciences Center, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (WVDHHR) and other partners. These include, among others, providing data analytic support, program evaluation expertise, technical assistance and project management support for the WVDHHR and other partners With office locations in both Morgantown and Charleston, the Office of Health Affairs (OHA) employs over 50 full-time staff and engages numerous faculty and staff from other units of the University to fulfill its service mission to the state.
The Manager of Research Support is a key participant in Office of Health Affairs and its collaborative research and evaluation work with external partners. General responsibilities include independently conducting highly technical and complex research and evaluation activities and assisting the Assistant Director of Research Support in the management of research support services for OHA.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidatae will:
Supervises junior level Research Specialists within OHA by orienting, training, and providing performance feedback.
Supports Assistant Director of Research Support with training, mentoring, quality assurance activities, and other operational needs for research support services.
Serves as a second in command to the Assistant Director of Research Support when needed.
Helps monitor adherence to OHA standardized procedures and processes for research support services.
Provides input into the development of departmental goals and objectives.
Conducts research/evaluation activities using independent judgment in applying or adapting scientific techniques to accomplish tasks outlined in prescribed project workplans
Facilitates the planning, direction, and execution of specific segments of the research project
Investigates and recommends alternative approaches to improve the quality of results
Provides mentoring, training, and support to entry level Research Specialists.
Serves as a technical resource for other research personnel.
Compiles, collects, and interprets data. May perform analyses of secondary and/or primary data depending on the needs of the project.
Designs, implements, and maintains data collection tools and summarizes data collection processes, procedures, and activities.
Completes IRB applications and materials
Prepares written materials, charts, graphs, reports, and presentations on research results, methods, and findings
Communicates results of analytic projects and program evaluations with external partners and stakeholders.
Contributes to the development and design of new projects.
Co-authors or authors peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts, conference presentation materials in collaboration with project team.
Presents findings at local, state, or national conferences and/or meetings in collaboration with project team
Managing, coordinating, and monitoring the day to day productivity and task management.
Partnering with project leaders to define project approach and ensure overall project plans.
Tracking and reporting project milestones in the selected format at the assigned intervals
Developing stakeholder presentations regarding strategic initiatives progress, risks and budget results, and project operational reports.
Master's degree in health science-related field or equivalent amount of combined education and work experience
Two (2) years:
Demonstrated experience in health-related research or evaluation
Experience working collaboratively with state-level policy stakeholders is preferred
Experience with statistical and qualitative analysis activities and software such as SPSS, SAS, Atlas Ti, and NVivo desired
Experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research design and methods preferred
Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
