Summary
The Mechanical Manager is responsible for preventative maintenance, plumbing, and other mechanical trades for all MHS Properties assigned. He/she will assume management of all staff when the supervisors, electrical, zone mechanics, 2nd and 3rd shift personnel, paint, & carpentry are not available. The Mechanical Manager will also work side by side with the Plant Operation managers and sub-contractors for technical and pm decisions. The primary role is to manage the mechanical systems and related projects. The Mechanical Manager will also support the efforts of all HVAC and controls operation and staff as needed. The Mechanical Manager works directly with the project teams and will act as a liaison to divulge pertinent information regarding new equipment, technical documents, and outages as required by the project. The Mechanical Manager routinely works directly with Mercy technicians and outside contractors, dispatch personnel and other managers to ensure customer satisfaction while meeting departmental goals and objectives. This position wall also support construction projects assigned.
Responsibilities
Support the Facilities Director by developing and monitoring budgets, departmental goals and objectives to ensure departmental safety, budget stewardship, and overall Mercy Health Systems profitability
Schedule work with other departments to ensure a positive patient experience
Direct and provide technical support for Mercy Staff and outside contractors
Work directly with the Infectious Control and Safety Teams to ensure quality and positive patient outcomes.
Oversee and direct technicians to effectively perform the functions of quality equipment repair, installation, start-up, operation, and other duties as required to ensure customer satisfaction
Periodically check technician and contractor work to ensure quality meets established standards, techniques and safety requirements; makes recommendations as requirements to improve quality and productivity
Support supervisors to establish and maintain a regular training program to ensure all technician PM's are properly trained on the latest service techniques and safety procedures for equipment and general working conditions
Complete annual reviews in collaboration with the Facilities Director and other leadership
Maintain communication with vendors and factory personnel concerning warranty issues, product recall notices, operational problems with products, premature failures and other issues as they apply to products and equipment sold and serviced by the HVAC Service Department
Review work orders, invoices and time reports for accuracy and provide a summary to the Facilities Director
Specify and ensure required parts are ordered in a timely fashion to ensure work deadlines are met
Promote internal and external learning opportunities to staff to maintain proficiency in preventative maintenance, start-up, trouble-shooting, and repair of supported equipment
Manage larger installation, start-up and commissioning projects; coordinates and directs a team of technicians and/or installing contractors; performs prestart-up inspections and completes turnover of equipment to owner
Work with other departmental managers to meet company and departmental goals and objectives
Other tasks and responsibilities as required to maintain efficient department operations
Requirements
Masters License in HVACR within 3 years of hire.
Five years HVAC Management related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Some post-high school education from college, trade school or military
Excellent customer service and sales skills
Exhibit an in-depth knowledge and understanding of HVAC and Mechanical Systems.
Has the ability to read, interpret, utilize and train on manuals, schematics and control circuits
Technical aptitude with knowledge of local codes and an ability to use resources at hand to find solutions
Excellent leadership skills to enhance team productivity and standards of work produced
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and strong conflict management skills
Detail oriented and highly organized with the ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments
Good computer skills: knowledge of and proficiency in common office applications such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook and general software navigation
Have a clean, neat and professional appearance
Valid driver's license
Ability and willingness to work non-standard schedule: nights, weekends and holidays as/if required
