LEAD Charter School, NJ's first alternative charter high school, seeks an exceptional educational leader to join its community of educators. The mission of LEAD is to enable students ages 16-21 in grades 9-12 in Newark, NJ to master the essential skills crucial for success in postsecondary education, career, and community leadership within a global society. LEAD implements the Opportunity Youth Network (OYN) school model. Key design elements support the unique academic and non-academic needs of students who have disengaged from traditional schooling. The innovative OYN model re-engages young people via active participation in rigorous and relevant content, and standards-driven, competency-based instruction aligned with emerging market demands. Through applied learning opportunities with partner organizations and corporations, LEAD prepares students to compete in the local economy and/or transition to postsecondary education.

The Manager of Operations, is a central role on LEAD's Charter School's Leadership Team and oversees the ongoing operations at the school in conjunction with an LEAD's network Executive Director of Finance and Operations. The MO ensures implementation and maintenance of clear systems that allow the Head of School, Student Support Service leader, and teachers to focus on students. The MO also works closely with the Special Projects Coordinator, Maintenance Coordinator, members of the network management team, outside consultants, and outside vendors.

Reports To: Director of Operations (DOO)

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required in Education, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

  • Proven experience in project management, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively, solve problems, and adapt to changing situations.

  • Familiarity with budget management and resource allocation.

  • Passion for education, a commitment to excellence, and a forward-thinking attitude.

  • Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.

  • Demonstrated commitment to closing the achievement gap with an unwavering belief in the power of young people.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the ongoing operations at the school with the DOO;

  • Manages various operational staff to maintain and safe, orderly, and efficient education environment;

  • Creates a detailed start-up checklist and ordering list to ensure that the school starts each year prepared and fully stocked;

  • Works closely with the Maintenance Coordinator to oversee the school's physical condition of LEAD facilities;

  • Works with network EFO and outside service providers to ensure that the school has a fully functioning technology infrastructure;

  • Manages student information database system and generates reports as needed;

  • Manages food and transportation services;

  • Ensures school-wide compliance with health and safety laws, charter contracts, state education mandates (including staff fingerprinting), teacher certification, and all federal and state workplace regulations;

  • Ensures that school-based employees receive payroll and benefits in timely and accurate manner by work with EFO and Business Service Providers;

  • Work with SPC and Office Manager to ensure effective procurement systems are put in place and fare maintained;

  • Works with appropriate staff (Guidance Counselors and Head of Schools) to construct school schedules, class rosters, and testing rosters;

  • Manages relationships with all outside organizations and leads the school's efforts to partner with community leaders and organizations (i.e. members of the NJDOE office and local agencies);

  • Manages visitor program;

  • Tracks student admission applications and maintains waitlist with the support of operations and recruitment staff;

  • Manages and oversee data reporting for various stakeholders at the school, local, state, federal, and private entity level;

  • Coordinates with OYN to ensure smooth operations, identify needs, and facilitate flow of information;

  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

12-month employee. Salary to be recommended by the school and approved by the board.

EVALUATION

The performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the board's policy on evaluation.
