Position Description:

The Manager of Operational Accounting is responsible for performing and overseeing a broad range of responsibilities related to both revenue and JIB accounting functions. Supervises a staff of revenue and joint interest accountants to ensure transactions are recorded and analyzed in a timely and accurate manner and in accordance with company policies. Takes ownership of the accounting functions within assigned area, including internal and external customer service, management reporting and all aspects of the monthly accounting close. Duties include overseeing monthly distribution of royalties, monthly distribution of

JIBs and compliance with State and Federal reporting requirements for all properties.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Manage, review and assist with the daily, monthly and annual processes related to the revenue and joint interest accounting processes to ensure a timely and accurate financial close

  • Review and approve JIB and revenue related accounting entries and account reconciliations

  • Assist with the preparation and review of the monthly accrual entries

  • Analyze monthly operational results to provide clear explanations into causes of variances and fluctuations in operations

  • Oversee compliance with Federal and State of Wyoming including, but not limited to the following: royalty regulations, production and withholding tax regulations

  • Coordinate royalty, tax and joint venture audits, assist legal with litigation as needed

  • Act as a key contact for internal audit, external audit and third-party SOX consultants for revenue and JIB accounting matters

  • Manage opportunities to implement process improvement

  • Coordinate efforts with internal departments and external groups to ensure effective communication, consistency, and use of best practices

  • Develop, motivate and evaluate operational accountants

  • Prepare monthly reconciliations and analyze revenue and joint interest results/key metrics.

  • Conduct special projects and other duties as assigned

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance

  • 8+ years of oil and gas accounting experience actively involved in a relevant and related role

  • Technical knowledge of oil and gas revenue accounting and joint interest accounting

  • Advanced understanding of accounting principles, practices and processes

  • Past experience with federal and state compliance requirements

  • Familiarity and experience with BOLO software preferred, but not required

  • Intermediate to advanced level in Excel and Access

  • Proficient in organizing and prioritizing work to meet specific deadlines

  • Strong problem-solving skills, desire to make positive changes and process improvements

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
