Position Summary and Key Responsibilities

The Manager of Manufacturing Operations for Synthetic Biology will be responsible for managing, aligning and improving the manufacturing operations, along with support functions, to ensure that the 'Value Stream' is aligned with the business and customer expectations.

The individual must have the ability to successfully lead a manufacturing team as demonstrated by previous experience and partner closely with a diversified manufacturing support team. Requirements include the ability to manage process improvement and day to day activities related to manufacturing scheduling, materials, production, and process yield improvement. Individuals will participate in product development projects in a team oriented environment. In addition, the individual must have experience working with and developing a team oriented production environment focused on process improvement and continuous waste elimination. Previous experience with people management and collaboration with other teams and support functions is desirable.

  • Manage the Manufacturing Operations of the Synthetic Biology Value stream.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to all personnel within the value stream team (exempt and non-exempt) to drive a root cause / corrective action culture.

  • Ensure proper training is performed to a standard that ensures a consistent quality product is manufactured that meets the customer expectation.

  • Develop capacity plans together with our site in Germany and ensure that the volume fluctuations of the business is managed efficiently to ensure that customer needs and lead-times are met.

  • Manage key operations metrics; record and report within the Daily Management Tier System escalating issues as required.

  • Interface with Business Development, R&D, Sales and Finance to successfully launch products and processes on time and on budget meeting customer expectations.

  • Drive PPI and Lean initiatives to drive continuous improvement that may improve cost, first pass yield, operational performance, end to end processing time and product flow

  • Document standard work/SOPs and provide continuous feedback to team members to assure all are adhering to procedures and striving for continuous improvement and alignment with objectives.

  • Provide guidance, direction and leadership to ensure that products are manufactured with the highest level of quality in a safe, timely manner

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory and business system requirements (e.g. ISO)

  • Other miscellaneous activities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Business, Engineering or related discipline

  • Supervisor or manager experience in an ISO13485 manufacturing environment for biotechnological products

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Highly motivated and a commitment to continuous improvement

  • Solid people, team building and conflict resolution skills

  • Ability to develop and coach employees

  • Proven track record in leading and implementing PPI / continuous improvements and/or lean activities.

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, SAP, Camstar
