Position Overview

The Manager of IT Development coordinates IT Development (Application Development) team and team member activities throughout the development lifecycles of all projects, and sets measurable team and individual goals and deadlines. This person remains in daily contact with application architects and developers, project managers, and Analyst/QA managers to ensure projects proceed on schedule and adhere to all applicable standards. The Manager of IT Development reports to the Director of Solution Delivery.

Primary Duties

  • Manage application development teams throughout the complete project and system development lifecycles

  • Seek, hire, and retain a strong, collaborative team of application development experts by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and overseeing the ongoing training of employees, maintaining a safe and secure work environment, and developing personal growth opportunities for the development staff

  • Work with systems analysts, quality assurance and testing teams to ensure that applications and solutions function as intended

  • Work with Business Relationship Managers and Business Analysts to prioritize application enhancement requests

  • Coordinate with the project management office (PMO) to allocate developer resources as required to deliver prioritized projects

  • Report the status and progress of each project to IT leadership, and escalate issues in a timely manner

  • Provide technical and professional career guidance including goal setting, performance management, coaching, mentoring and ensuring the teams skills, certifications and capabilities are kept up-to-date through the implementation of training and development programs

  • Ensure application development initiatives are well managed and deliver on expectations regarding functionality, timeliness and cost

  • Plan, direct, coordinate and review all the work activities of the application development teams

  • Plan, monitor, and appraise job results through effective employee coaching, counseling, and discipline of employees

Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems or a related field

  • 10 years IT experience and 4 years managing application development teams

  • Proven experience leading a team of highly skilled application developers

  • Practical knowledge of software development tools, practices and processes

  • Experience leading development teams in an Agile environment

  • Experience with Continuous Integration, DevOps and automated testing practices

  • Proven ability to engage in critical conversations with senior business and IT leadership

Responsibilities As a Manager, you'll work as part of a team of problem solvers with extensive consulting and industry experience, helping our clients solve their complex business issues from strategy to execution.
