Purpose:

As a key member of the Information Technology Services (ITS) team, the Infrastructure Services Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security. This role will work closely with all ITS teams, individuals, and vendors to ensure seamless delivery of Network Engineering and Operations projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of server and networking technologies, strong leadership abilities, and a proven track record of managing complex network environments. The incumbent will remain abreast of current and emerging industry trends and best practices; identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and make recommendations for improvements.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plan, design, and implement server and network infrastructure solutions that meet the current and future needs of the university.

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the network engineering and operations team, including staff supervision, performance evaluation, training, and development.

  • Ensure the availability, reliability, and security of the server and network infrastructure, including physical and virtual servers, enterprise software, routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, VPNs, and other network devices.

  • Oversee successful delivery of infrastructure Service tasks, assignments, projects, creation of equipment/network documentation.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot network performance issues and provide timely resolution and escalation.

  • Develop and maintain network documentation, policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Manage and coordinate network projects, including budgeting, scheduling, vendor management, and stakeholder communication.

  • Research and evaluate new network technologies and solutions and make recommendations for adoption and implementation.

  • Collaborate with other ITS teams, departments, and external partners to ensure alignment and integration of network services and solutions.

  • Provide server and network-related support and guidance to ITS staff and end users.

  • Ensure compliance with university policies and regulations, as well as industry best practices and standards.

  • Working with our Chief Information Officer (CIO), oversee vendor relationships and contracts for network hardware, software, and services.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in ITS strategic planning and governance processes.

  • Provide backup support for other ITS managers and staff as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CIO or designee.

  • Provide additional support to higher-tiered staff when needed and/or required.

  • Participate in training and professional growth opportunities to enhance technical knowledge and skills.

  • This position requires onsite presence during all working hours and is not eligible for remote or hybrid arrangements.

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for network maintenance, upgrades, and other network related tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in networking and server operations, including at least two years of supervisory or managerial experience.

  • Demonstrated expertise in server administration, network design, implementation, and administration, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, and firewall technologies.

  • Experience with network vendor products and services, such as SonicWall, Aruba, etc.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced and dynamic setting.

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.

  • Ability to adapt to changing technologies and requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education or public sector network environments.

  • Experience with cloud-based network services and solutions, such as Azure, Google Cloud, etc.

  • Knowledge of network infrastructure design, implementation, and management principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of network security principles and practices, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, etc.

  • Knowledge of network performance analysis and optimization techniques and tools.

  • Knowledge of network project management methodologies and tools.

  • Knowledge of network vendor products and services.

  • Knowledge of current and emerging network technologies and trends.

  • Skills in network documentation, policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Skills in staff supervision, performance evaluation, training, and development.

  • Skills in budgeting, scheduling, vendor management, and stakeholder communication.

  • Skills in research and evaluation of new network technologies and solutions.

  • Skills in communication, interpersonal, and customer service.

  • Skills in analytical, problem-solving, and decision making.

  • Skills in teamwork and collaboration.

Physical Demands:

  • Primarily in-field work.

  • Intermediate periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs. or more.

  • Normal physical agility, which includes the ability to maneuver the body while in place.

  • Normal physical strength to handle routine office materials and tools.

  • Normal dexterity of hands and fingers; normal endurance.
