Michigan Milk Producers Association is actively interviewing for a Wastewater & Water Systems Manager. In this role you will provide management and technical support of the wastewater operations and environmental programs across 3 MMPA facilities-Ovid, MI, Constantine, MI, and Middlebury, IN. As the manager you will assure that all manufacturing plants are operating in accordance with EPA, EGLE, IDEM, OEPA, MIOSHA, IOSHA, OSHA, and MMPA requirements, while maximizing operational efficiencies. All activities should be managed in alignment with company goals of safety, quality, regulatory preparedness, financial performance, inventory controls, and environmental mission. Facilitation of continuous improvement of the treatment processes through constant and effective communication is essential for this role. This position will have a high level of experience in industrial wastewater treatment systems. Preparing, scheduling, coordinating, documenting, and validating daily performance are essential components of this job. The Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) - established in 1916 - is a dairy farmer-owned and operated milk marketing cooperative and dairy processor. As the 10th largest dairy cooperative in the U.S., MMPA serves dairy farmers throughout Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Indiana, employing approximately 625 people in four states. In addition to a cheese plant in Indiana called the Middlebury Cheese Company, and a dairy product plant in Ohio called Superior Dairy, MMPA operates two SQF Level 3 dairy ingredient plants in Michigan. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:

  • Responsible for all aspects of environmental compliance as defined in plant and department procedures. These include all environmentally permitted programs,

(i.e., NPDES, Storm Water, SWPP, PIPP, MAERS, Air, AUA, etc.)

  • Resource to participate in process effectiveness reviews and provide necessary engineering support for all plant processes.

  • Responsible for supervision of wastewater treatment plant personnel.

  • Support training of employees as required to maintain certification and competence.

  • Troubleshoot all compliance and operational issues within the treatment process. Verify/validate that system operations are functioning in a reliable and correct manner.

  • Work with plant management and leadership teams to resolve process issues and improve overall operational efficiency.

  • Provide recordkeeping in accordance with various regulatory program requirements.

  • Commitment to safety is essential.

  • Must acquire necessary licensing as required to be designated licensed operator for each facility. These include Storm Water, Sequencing Batch Reactors, Filtration, Clarification, Drinking Water license, Impoundment, Disinfection, Land Surface Disposal, Non-Contact Cooling Water.

  • Must perform all required regulatory reporting within time frames required.

  • Participate in problem solving teams.

  • Communicate changes and oversee training of wastewater treatment personnel.

  • Be able to provide both written and verbal communication with all regulatory agencies.

  • Continual self-education to stay current through self-study and outside training where applicable.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

  • Establish and maintain proper QA/QC procedures.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Proactively work in a safe manner in the context of performing the functions of your position

  • Oversee the implementation and adherence to Company safety practices and programs and hold staff accountable for leading safety in the workplace.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's or Associates in Chemical Engineering or Science, Environmental Science, or relevant wastewater systems management experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years experience of working in a wastewater treatment plant.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, etc..).

  • Knowledge of biological waste treatment, including both aerobic and anaerobic systems.

  • Previous leadership experience preferred.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines within time constraints.

  • Ability to read process drawings to interpret plant operations and facilitate process troubleshooting.

  • Ability to operate in a team environment

  • Ability to adapt in a changing work environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to safely lift 50 lbs.

  • Ability to bend and reach files and cabinets where records are stored.

  • Office environment repetitive motion through computer use required.

  • Manufacturing environment operating in areas where high noise, machinery and chemicals are present.
