MFA physicians provide comprehensive patient care, offering one practice for the whole person with 52 medical and surgical specialties. As members of the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences faculty, MFA providers are teachers and mentors for medical students, residents, fellows, and researchers preserving the rich tradition of academics, research, and healing. In addition to maintaining a closely integrated alliance with The George Washington University and The George Washington University Hospital (GWUH) which is separately owned and operated by Universal Health Services (UHS), the GW MFA has active referring relationships with 12 area hospitals.

The GW MFA's leading healthcare presence in the DC metro region is complemented by a network of community-based practices in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Given its geographic location in central NW Washington, DC, and proximity to more than 175 resident embassies, the MFA continues to evolve its international clinical outreach.

Position Summary

This position will report to the Senior Director of FP&A and will be the point person in overseeing budgeting, forecasting, analysis, and reporting, in partnering with many functions across the organization, and in other projects and activities as assigned. The selected candidate will be called upon to perform advanced and complex financial analysis and data management; to participate in and/or supervise projects or portions of projects; to establish and maintain productive relationships; to daily demonstrate initiative, vision, and leadership; and to perform their duties successfully with minimal supervision. The selected candidate must be: Proactive, dedicated, productive, and eager to make a difference. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

Supervision and Leadership:

  • With Senior Director, develops a continually-improving, dynamic vision for our most important deliverables: budget, forecast, monthly performance analyses, and special projects. Drives the visions to realization.

  • Ensures that all who come in contact with the FP&A department receive exceptional support and partnership.

  • Supervises one Senior or Financial Analyst, ensures their growth and adherence to requirements.

  • Takes ownership to ensure quality, accuracy, professionalism, and timeliness of deliverables and presentations.

  • Partners with assigned areas.

  • Is hands-on and detail-oriented.

  • Leads by example, establishes productive relationships within and outside the department, creates a positive, supportive, dynamic, challenging, trusting, and enjoyable work environment.

Forecasting and Budgeting:

  • Leads preparation of the model and supporting data for the annual budget.

  • Leads preparation of the model and supporting data for the monthly forecasts.

  • Collaboratively sets performance targets for all areas, and achieves buy-in to those targets.

  • Gives budget training and supports those throughout the organization in preparing the budgets and addressing questions/issues related to data discrepancies and model functionality.

Other:

  • Works closely with the FP&A Senior Director on the vision for our deliverables, our financial systems, our data integrity and availability, and on automation and streamlining of analysis and reporting.

  • Oversees development of monthly reporting and many other deliverables.

  • Becomes adept at using and at developing/improving our systems and applications: Cognos, Epic, EAS, various Microsoft, Tableau.

  • Participates in special projects as assigned, for example: establishing organization-wide data definitions, tracking our spending on special projects, supporting consulting initiatives, and standardizing and evaluating business cases.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.

  • Other qualifications such as an MBA, MHA, CPA, or CHFP are desirable.

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a quantitative and analytical role with a large and complex organization is required, with demonstrated ability to successfully complete complex analyses with minimal supervision.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft software, particularly Excel.

  • Experience with the handling of large amounts of sensitive and confidential information appropriately.

  • Healthcare experience in a large physicians group or hospital is preferred.

  • Experience with Cognos TM1/Analytics, Hyperion, Strata, KH, or similar financial systems is strongly preferred

  • Prior experience with data analysis, visualization, and dissemination applications such as Microsoft BI or Tableau is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Sit, stand, bend, reach, and walk for long periods of time in a clinical setting.

  • Must be able to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull over 100 lbs. as part of the role.

  • Regularly exposed to healthcare settings that may require personal protective equipment.

  • Requires manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, calculator, copier machine, and other equipment.
