The Financial Clinic is a national nonprofit organization that builds financial security for low-income Americans. We fulfill our mission through an ecosystem of strategies that includes direct service, capacity building with nonprofit partners, and research and policy solutions. The Clinics model and strategies are hosted on its experience-led platform, Change Machine, which equips nonprofit front line staff members with the professional development resources, data collection tools, and peer support to sustainably enhance their service-delivery models and build financial security for customers long-term. Change Machine has been used by 4,000 front line staff from 600 organizations to serve 80,000 customers in 45 states, putting a total cash value of $42,000,000 back in the pockets of people in poverty.

We are looking for a Manager of Finance who is excited to join our Finance & Operations team and support the Clinics mission. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance & Operations, the Manager of Finance will primarily focus on:

  1. Day-to-day finance-related functions of the organization;
  2. Month-end close and reconciliation processes;
  3. Internal and external financial reporting;
  4. Budgeting and forecasting; and
  5. Financial analysis

Requirements

Financial Management

  • Manage the organizations annual budget process
  • Develop detailed monthly cash flow and P&L forecasts
  • Produce monthly internal and external (Board-level) financial reporting
  • Design and implement organization-wide financial dashboard and KPIs
  • Identify cost saving initiatives
  • Oversee grant budgeting, accounting and reporting
  • Conduct ad hoc analyses

Financial Controls, Policies and Procedures

  • Complete month-end close and reconciliations
  • Improve and maintain internal controls, policies and procedures
  • Develop expense policies and procedures
  • Assist with annual accounting audit
  • Oversee and maintain all finance-related systems

Client and Vendor Financial Management

  • Manage A/P and A/R processes and procedures
  • Process client billing and invoicing
  • Oversee grant payment and client collection process
  • Process vendor invoicing and payments
  • Manage annual vendor 1099 process

Personal Qualifications

The ideal individual will have strong financial acumen, a laser-sharp attention to detail, the ability to exercise good judgment and develop effective solutions, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Previous finance and/or accounting experience
  • Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven analytical and reasoning abilities
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem solving with strong decision-making capability
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks seamlessly
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in the Clinics mission to build financial security for low-income Americans

Technical Qualifications

  • Minimum seven years of finance and accounting experience; ideally in nonprofit sector
  • Bachelor's degree required; preferably in Finance, Accounting, Business
  • Proficiency in financial reporting and analysis; including GAAP-compliant reporting
  • Strong technical skills with advanced knowledge of Accounting systems (QuickBooks and Bill.com preferred)
  • Knowledge of Salesforce, Microsoft Office, G-Suite and Asana (or comparable project management system) a plus
