POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manager contributes to a culture of continuous improvement through the promotion of data-driven decision making and supports the organization in identifying areas of improvement within business and operational processes, as well as, the prioritization of resources. A key area of focus for this role is the establishment and management of the organization's data governance which includes the development and management of BMC reporting strategy.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Responsible for organizing a framework for establishing strategy, objectives and policies for the data that drives our business (data governance).

  • Assist business owners in the identification of key improvement opportunities. Support operational business planning.

  • Establish and communicate performance standards through benchmarking.

  • Support efforts to establish meaningful, actionable performance goals across the organization.

  • Responsible for management of the ED Nursing Operations team.

  • Support the organization as an internal consultant, project manager, and capacity builder for management, staff, and physicians in performance and process improvement approaches and tools, including but not limited to Lean philosophy and techniques.

  • Remain accountable for improvement efforts and the accomplishment of target conditions that facilitate the achievement of the organization's goals.

  • In concert with senior leaders, managers, and staff, identify and prioritize opportunities for the establishment of Performance Improvement teams (with the dual goals of accomplishing the specific improvements and building capacity for others to continue to engage in performance improvement). Coordinate and execute a portfolio of such teams.

  • Serve as a facilitator and technical resource for other teams and all managers in Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.

  • Support and coach staff, helping to identify priorities; find and implement synergies among the group, maintain open communication, oversee project progress, and assist in reaching successful outcomes. Represent office to other constituents in the organization.

  • Demonstrate an ability to mentor and develop relationships with staff at all levels, with particular sensitivity to issues surrounding serious events.

  • Develop and coordinate (as well as lead as capable and appropriate) programs to train organizational leadership and operational teams in performance improvement/LEAN/Six Sigma methodologies.

  • Lead the process to identify and prioritize opportunities for performance improvement projects to be supported by coach(es).

  • Support organizational performance improvement initiatives by consulting and working collaboratively with cross functional teams and developing and providing departmental resources and expertise to selected projects and organizational strategies.

  • Prepare reports regarding the progress, effectiveness, and outcomes of performance improvement projects. Present this information to trustees, medical staff, administration, staff, patients, and community as appropriate.

  • Provide technical, statistical, and analytical expertise to teams and individuals to enhance clinical operations, business operations, and service delivery.

  • Serve on assigned committees as required.

  • Provide training, education, and mentoring in performance improvement methodologies and analytics.

  • Maintain and enhance personal and team's professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, in-service meeting, current literature and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in the field of process improvement and project management.

  • Meet annual competency and retraining requirements.

  • Attend meetings as required.

  • Perform other functions/duties as requested.

JOB DESCRIPTION CHARACTERISTICS

EDUCATION:

Master's degree in public health, related medical sciences, epidemiology or biostatistics. (May consider Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years data management experience).

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

None

EXPERIENCE:

Must be experienced with statistical analysis software (SAS) and data management. Understanding of biostatistics is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Excellent programming ability in SAS, R (or similar) statistical software is required. Knowledge of S-plus, SQL, Matlab, Perl or other scripting language is advantageous.

  • Proficiency with MS Suite (Excel /Minitab /Visio /Access/Word /Outlook/PowerPoint) and internet web browsers also required.

  • Strong conceptual and analytical skills; able to interpret and apply statistical techniques, and to explain methods and findings to non-statistician team members and audiences.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Great interpersonal skills and flexibility to work in a collaborative environment.

  • Excellent organizational skills, including ability to multi-task, set priorities and meet timetables while managing several simultaneous projects.
