The Manager of Construction, GovCloud is a strategically significant, global role in the AWS Construction team dedicated to leading, mentoring, and coaching our team of skilled Construction Managers building data centers. You will manage a fast-moving, intelligent team of professionals and the regional construction program delivering data center capacity to support Amazon's growth in Government regions. Our Data Center Construction team owns and drives the construction life-cycle including constructability, proposal development, bid analysis, award, on-site construction management, and turnover to Customer.

The manager will be expected to dive deep and know construction management; inspire and think big about the construction management program; and support, grow, and nurture the team delivering sophisticated electrical and mechanical systems to our Customers.

The Manager of Construction will be responsible for:

  • Hire and develop new Construction Managers. Coach, mentor, and lead a large Construction Management team.

  • Manage multiple construction builds spread across the United States and globally.

  • Strategic and tactical management of construction capacity delivery within their region.

  • Communicate and provide guidance to Finance during the development and execution of capital budgets.

  • Interact with senior US Government officials for GovCloud data center builds, providing project status and resolving onsite issues.

  • Develop and manage metrics quantifying performance within their region.

  • Coordinate with stakeholders on land and facility acquisition.

  • Manage the safety, cost, and quality of the data center deliverable.

In addition this individual must possess the following abilities:

  • Ability to lead, motivate, and train subordinates.

  • Ability and willingness to think creatively and build innovative solutions to reduce cost and duration with no impact on quality and reliability.

  • Ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify the project scope and present the justification to management in a high-level review.

Job Duties and Responsibilities As a Project Manager in Wireless Construction, you will manage a variety of internal and external partners and vendors to oversee construction and maintenance for a regional network of cell site projects. Your vital role will ensure that these multi-stakeholder, complex projects are delivered on time, to specifications, and within budget. Primary responsibilities fall into the following categories: * Coordinate with external vendors and internal resources to ensure that construction projects are started on time with the appropriate resources. * Maintain detailed schedules for each project and actively managing the scheduled tasks with outside vendors including major milestones, action items, long lead purchases, and any other commitments that would impact the project schedule. * Provide regular project status reports to executive management and the project team. * Work cross-functionally to collaborate with other teams in the region including Real Estate, RF Design, Construction, Implementation, Network Assurance, and System Performance. * Prepare and manage purchase orders to ensure alignment with project implementation timelines. Ensure prompt vendor payment. * Deliver on monthly spend targets that help support our capital commitments and maintain program cadence/run rates. * Utilize project tracking tools and systems to accurately document equipment orders, schedules and installation completions. Skills - Experience and Requirements The successful Project Manager will have: * Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience. * Eight or more years of experience in telecommunications / data networking or wireless industry * Experience managing projects and process/program management experience. * Experience with budget tracking, cost estimation, and cost accounting of capital plans. * General construction knowledge * Excellent communication and team building skills enable you to negotiate with internal and external partners to ensure nothing gets in the way of success.
