Materials characterization is pivotal in all R&D and production deliverables for the company and the quality of the materials data is critical to optimizing the materials design process. You will need to be a hands-on problem solver who will interact cross-functionally with technicians, scientists, and engineers. To be successful in this role, it is vital for you to have a deep understanding of instrumental analyses, laboratory logistics, and database management. It is also essential that data collection and analysis is accurate by ensuring all tools are functioning and calibrated. This role requires you to be proactive, organized, and adept at working in a matrixed organization. An ability to assess and communicate priorities to direct reports is key, as this department supports both the flexible, specialized needs of R&D teams while providing high throughput, standardized analytical services for Manufacturing.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Metrology Team including day-to-day activities, training, and professional development

  • Manage vendor contracts, service visits, and preventative maintenance schedules

  • Streamline team workflow to provide optimal throughput while meeting data integrity metrics

  • Provide analytical method development guidance for all applications groups

  • Attend cross-functional meetings and ensure alignment of analytical priorities throughout organization

  • Manage Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) including integration of analytical instruments and automation of data fitting and reporting

  • Develop and enforce safety and quality protocols for air-sensitive battery materials

  • Work directly with Manufacturing Team to optimize turnaround times, prioritize urgent requests, and address data quality concerns

  • Maintain SOPs and Work Instructions for instrument operation and calibration, tool matching, data collection, and data analysis

  • Conduct Gage R&R studies

  • Initiate and maintain communication channels for data quality issues, instrument status, and queue management

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree in engineering or general sciences (or information science, computer science) AND 3+ years of experience in a relevant field OR Master's degree in engineering or general sciences (or information science, computer science) AND 5+ years of experience in a relevant field OR Bachelor's degree in engineering or general sciences (or information science, computer science) AND 7+ years of experience in a relevant field OR equivalent experience

  • 2 years people management experience

  • Proven track record in materials science with expertise in materials characterization and data analysis

  • Extensive experience using analytical instruments including, but not limited to, BET, TGA/DSC, XRD, Raman spectroscopy, FTIR, XPS, particle size analysis

  • Experience querying databases and using data analysis and statistical software packages

  • Experience compiling data sets, generating correlations, and presenting data/results to key stakeholders

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in an in-office desk set up

  • Ability to walk multiple times between campus buildings

Compensations Range:

The expected base salary range for this position is between

$141,100.00 - $211,700.00

The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise.

This compensation and benefits information is based on Lyten's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. We generally do not negotiate on salary once we have made an offer. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise. New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.

In addition to base pay this position is eligible for tier based bonus and equity, healthcare, dental, vision, corporate discounts, paid holidays, PTO and sick time, 401K, employee relocation plan (if applicable)
