About the Position
The Manager, Market Risk serves a key leadership role within the organization's Market Risk Management function. This position leads the Risk Management Steering Committee process and agenda, and it oversees the Risk Data Control (Middle-office), Contract Administration, and Risk Management groups to ensure compliance to commodity risk management policies, generation of contracts, contract confirmations, accuracy of captured commodity trade data, and completion of position, financial, and regulatory reporting. The Manager, Market Risk also reviews business line strategies, proposed transactions, and leads the development of potential policy for Risk Management Steering Committee review and approval.
Oversee Ameren's commodity risk-assessment process, system of controls and measures to address failures in compliance with established risk management policies and procedures, including establishing and monitoring compliance with parameters set by the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.
Maintain the Risk Management Steering Committee (RMSC) process, and policies and procedures to measure, monitor, limit and otherwise control commodity risks as deemed appropriate by the RMSC.
Provide commodity risk valuation support to Ameren Executive via the Risk Management Steering Committee
Provide oversight and performance measurement for Market Risk Management, Middle Office and Contract management
Coordinate policy compliance and any impact to the deal capture system across functions such as Front Office, Back office, Accounting, Legal, IT, Credit Risk Management, etc.
Identify and integrate fuels and energy positions into the corporate energy portfolio risk management structure
Ensure that Risk Management is taking appropriate steps to monitor and maintain hedge effectiveness related to ASC 815 and within corporate tolerance
Ensure that Risk Management is effectively keeping pace with modern and advanced market risk management techniques and reviewing positions
Work with other strategic areas in support of rate cases, prudence reviews, regulatory audits and debt issuances.
Lead personnel that structure, analyze, and value derivatives products (options, futures, swaps) to assist accounting, credit, and the front office hedging strategies. Serve as a subject matter expert to the corporate level Risk Management team.
Ensure the effective design and timely review of risk management policies, risk training materials, and Risk Management Steering Committee communication templates
Ensure risk system security and processes adhere to segregation of duties and code of conduct requirements and that risk system access is appropriate
Serve as the lead in coordinating internal and external audits and in ensuring risk processes / systems effectively mitigate Ameren's financial risks
Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of international, federal, and state regulatory reporting, including SEC, FERC, ICC, MPSC, and CFTC
Ensure the timeliness and accuracy of compliance reporting and monitor whether commodity positions remain within internal and external limits and requirements
Develop hedge performance measurement methodologies and provide critical feedback on business line strategies and proposed transactions to the Risk Management Steering Committee
Coordinate testing and implementation of projects involving updates or changes to the Energy Trade Risk Management (ETRM) and other risk-related systems, interfaces, or processes
Monitor the groups priorities to ensure alignment with corporate objectives and culture
BS/BA degree from an accredited college or university required - preferably in business, accounting, engineering, finance or economics. Advanced degree or certification preferred. Five or more years of professional-level risk management experience (particularly energy risk management) or relevant substitute from a commodities or financial industry or project management required. Direct supervisory or high level project team leadership experience strongly preferred.
In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
Proficiency with Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel and SharePoint required. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all employee levels. Excellent communication, analytical, decision making and problem solving, and organizational skills required. Proven ability to handle multiple projects/priorities. Technical/Functional expertise in managing Energy Trading Risk Management (ETRM) systems and interfaces and monitoring policy compliance preferred.
