SUMMARY

Directs and coordinates manufacturing activities for products, processes, equipment, services, or ideologies by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Plans and formulates aspects of manufacturing proposals such as objective or purpose of project, applications that can be utilized from findings, cost of project, and equipment and human resource requirements.

  • Reviews and analyzes proposals submitted to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures.

  • Approves and submits proposals considered feasible to management for consideration and allocation of funds from department budget.

  • Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences, in order to inform management of current status of each project.

  • Recommends and initiates actions on measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.

  • Develops and implements budget for the engineering department.

  • Responsible for development and adherence to the policies, procedures and instructions of the TS16949 quality system.

  • Serve as a member of the Quality Operating System team.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises 5-10 non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizational chart, company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in engineering or related field; with four to ten years minimum related experience and/or training in engineering field. Supervisory experience helpful.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Must be able to read and understand English.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
