The Maintenance Manager provides leadership and direction to plant maintenance function of a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation. This person carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies, OSHA regulations and applicable laws. May directly supervise employees or supervise through others.

  • Responsible for the overall performance of the plant's maintenance technicians. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the technicians and the department as a whole.

  • Develop and implement the plant's R&M budget and monitor cost relative to equipment repairs. Assist the Plant Manager in development and implementation of the plant capital budget.

  • Schedule labor to meet plant and equipment requirements while assigning responsibilities and managing and supporting maintenance personnel as needed. Create a spirit of customer service to the entire facility.

  • Diagnose, develop and implement methods and procedures to ensure most effective utilization of resources and provide best service to the facility.

  • Actively participate with operations in plant initiatives. Ensure all mechanical, electrical, electronic and structural repair and improvements are performed to industry standards.

  • Ensure that all utilities (i.e. refrigeration, electrical, steam, compressed air systems, facilities, etc.) are in proper working order to support production. Troubleshoot machinery and process systems in the event of breakdowns.

  • Maintain a system for tracking work orders, preventative and predictive maintenance and parts and equipment inventory.

  • Advise the plant manager on mechanical/downtime issues and their impact on production output.

  • Coordinate with production/packaging supervision any downtime windows for preventative maintenance and repair work.

  • Track downtime to proactively prevent re-occurrence through root cause analysis involving the key players. Implements corrective actions identified by key maintenance performance indicators as a means to create overall equipment effectiveness.

  • Actively participate in plant audits as needed.

  • Communicate effectively with all internal customers and support teams.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with contractors, vendors, consultants, suppliers, support teams and plant personnel.

  • Coordinate activities relative to spare parts inventory and cost to ensure maximum equipment reliability and team productivity.

  • Utilizes a computerized maintenance management system to optimize asset utilization through scheduled preventative maintenance.

  • Remains current with latest and emerging industry regulations and codes relative to mechanical and electrical systems design and operation.

  • Ensures corporate policies and standards are followed in both capital project implementation as well as daily maintenance.

  • Shares "best practices" within the Maintenance Department.

  • Engages in the typical responsibilities of a manager requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating and delegating.

  • Provides management of employees directly or through supervisors to ensure effective selection, retention, development, disciplinary action and performance management. If a collective bargaining agreement exists, may participate in negotiations, grievances or other contract related activities and discussions.

Job Requirements

  • Prefer a four-year degree in a related field, and/or equivalent experience in maintenance in the cheese/dairy industry.

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in a supervisory/management role is preferred.

  • Ability to evaluate maintenance/production/packaging processes and determine the most efficient method of accomplishing goals.

  • Ability to identify, define, and solve problems; lead, influence and inspire people; evaluate and develop employees in order to better utilize the available workforce; and promote quality, safety, and teamwork.

  • Ability to work flexible hours and weekends as needed.

  • Experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Programmable Logic Controllers, Auto Cad Software, & project & manufacturing software.

  • Strong time management, communication, and organizational skills. Strong customer and quality focus.

  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

  • Experience leading and following Safety/Security Policies and Procedures.

  • Ability to follow all Sanitation and Quality Policies and Procedures, and report and follow through on any deficiencies.

  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs; ability to lead others through change.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Skill in organization and prioritization, and attention to detail.

  • Strong team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.

  • Ability to select, lead, coach, influence, motivate, develop, engage and retain a team of employees.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to understand cost containment and budgetary principles.

  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends.

In accordance with guidelines, the Tool Crib Manager purchases spare parts and tools for the Tool Crib and is the direct contact for vendor managed inventories in the Tool Crib. The Tool Crib manager oversees and directs all Tool Crib Attendants and Assistants in an efficient and safe manner. What you will Do What You Will Do: * Maintain accuracy of crib inventory and corrects disparities within the inventory management system. * Manage the tool crib staff and their activities to maximize efficiency of employees and vendors. Perform annual employee performance reviews and develop employee's skills through training and support. Responsible for managing new inventory items when requested by plant and setting up critical spares. * Plan and maintain parts inventory and supplies to minimize production down time. * Responsible for assigning items to Crib Attendants for cycle counting. Review reports and close out cycle counts. * Ensures written instructions for the crib are developed, reviewed and updated as needed. * Examine daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports as necessary and develop corrective plan/action if needed. * Primary contact for Vendor Managed Inventory. * Reviews and approves purchase requests pertaining to the crib with a focus on ROI. * Informs suppliers of quality issues and acts to reconcile issues. * Identifies optimum reorder points based on delivery times and usage per item. * Ensure entire team has necessary tools and equipment to perform tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
