As a leader in the Wyoming Medical Center team, the Manager of Laboratory Services will facilitate continuous improvement in the delivery of safe, quality patient care, both individually and through leadership, delegation, referral, and cooperation with other team members, managers, directors, and administration. The Manager will be responsible for the overall performance, safety, and success of assigned departments, staff, and functions, and will utilize hospital and department resources in an efficient, cost-conscious manner to accomplish department and hospital objectives. The Manager will consistently meet the full range of WMC Leadership Expectations.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in medical technology or health sciences is required.
At least 10 years medical technologist or related clinical laboratory operations experience is required.
At least two years supervisory and/or management experience is required.
Certifications, Licenses and Registrations:
Certification as a Medical Technologist/Scientist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or a comparable professional association is required.
Valid Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record (i.e., ability to be insured by Wyoming Medical Center's policy carrier) are required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs duties and responsibilities within the scope of a Medical Technologist as defined by ASCP and WMC policies and procedures.
Assesses, develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures to ensure laboratory quality, accuracy, and safety, utilizing guidelines and standards of the college of American Pathologists (CAP), The Joint Commission (TJC), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC), the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and other applicable regulatory agencies and professional associations.
Ensures timely, accurate completion of ordered tests and reporting of test results in accordance with established policies and procedures. Manages and controls operations and flows to respond to patient and medical staff needs.
Designs and performs test procedures. Analyzes requests for tests and equipment and makes recommendations.
Oversees equipment maintenance as well as training and quality control related to equipment use.
Is responsible for hiring, supervising, competence, coaching/mentoring, corrective action, and performance evaluation of laboratory services employees in accordance with WMC policies, with input and support of subordinate supervisors.
Ensures appropriate staffing and staff scheduling for seamless and cost-effective laboratory services.
Ensures consistent compliance of all laboratory staff with established policies, procedures, practices, and standards.
Is responsible for "front line" regulatory oversight. Serves as lead in responding to handling audits and laboratory inspections, delegating responsibilities and participation as appropriate.
Ensures appropriate record keeping, communications, and privacy standards are implemented according to established policies.
Participates in budget preparation and implementation and in monthly budget variance analysis.
Maintains and reports on quality and volume data and provides trend analysis as a basis for process and business improvements. Gathers, analyzes, and reports information to communicate departmental goals, outcomes, and achievements.
As directed, participates in and supports initiatives to explore new services and/or serve new client/customer groups.
Ensures that the department establishes and maintains productive working relationships with staff, physicians, staff and management in other departments, vendors, and other internal and external customers. Performs other duties as assigned.
Accountable for improvements in the performance of quality metrics related to nationally recognized organizations such as Joint Commission, Leapfrog, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and other measures related to the prevention of complications of care, including adherence to national patient safety goals, prevention of falls and pressure ulcers, achieves departmental and organizational strategic goals, actively improves patient satisfaction, facilitates the prevention of infections, and decreases in Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI), Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), and Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection (CLABSI) incidence as related to job responsibilities.
Accountable for and facilitates actions with staff to reduce incidences of falls and pressure ulcers.
Ensures compliance with Handwashing Adherence Initiatives (HAI).
Implements strategies to increase the percentage of overall patient satisfaction; services scores for unit is in top box.
Accountable for successful achievement of organizational goals.
Successfully completes leadership training and demonstrates competency in leadership.
Performs additional duties as required or delegated.
