Job Scope:

Manage all associated Inside Plant activities. Manage staff responsible for the reception, and distribution of off-air, satellite, microwave, and digital transport programming up to the outside plant utilizing coaxial cable, microwave, and fiber optic transmission technologies. This includes the installation, construction, operation and repair of all equipment associated with the HE, Hubs and Optical Transport Network (OTN). Provide direction on day-to-day activities. Manage on-call rotation as necessary. Responsible for the hiring, firing, training, development, and performance management of staff. Assist in the budgeting processes.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop an effective Inside Plant Operations team and assist them with developing their skills and process adherence as to drive a high performance culture and environment.

  • Ensure all cabling, equipment installation, power and cooling is in compliance with corporate TQA standards.

  • Ensure field compliance with corporate standards, as well as Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations.

  • Responsible for ongoing training for technical personnel.

  • Establish positive employee relations through effective communication and ongoing support.

  • Participate in assembling capital budget needs.

  • Notify senior management of activities and issues.

  • Handle and resolve difficult issues.

  • Set priorities for leads and participate in the review of performance of staff.

  • Ensure all required logs, records and other documentation are in compliance with company and FCC technical requirements.

  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.

  • Perform other duties as requested by manager.

Basic / Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronics / Technology or Sciences and / or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum eight (8) years of HE Technician, cable technician or electronics work experience.

  • Minimum two (4) years of Network Engineering experience.

  • Minimum four (4) years of Management experience.

  • Minimum two (2) years of Project Management experience.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and safe driving record.

Additional Required Qualifications:

  • NCTI Master Technician Certification or SCTE, BDS, BTS, BTCS Certifications, CCNA, CCDA.

  • Individual has gained pertinent vendor certifications to bolster his or her effectiveness, such as: HVAC (Liebert, Trane, etc.), UPS / Inverter Vendor Certifications (Liebert, Alpha, etc.), Transport Vendor Certifications and Training (Aurora, Cisco, ARRIS, etc.)

  • Must be able to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires and to make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, twisting.

  • Should be able to read general system layouts from blue prints and system maps.

  • In-depth proficiency of designing, installing and maintaining critical facility systems and service delivery equipment for all products.

  • Ability to walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather while carrying tools and equipment, including ladders and fully loaded tool belts.

  • Knowledge of National Electric Code and National Electric Safety Code.

  • In-depth understanding of and demonstrated ability to teach advanced video networking, IP networking and DOCSIS.

Work Environment:

  • Work in a 24x7, fast paced environment.

  • Work indoors in confined space, poorly ventilated areas such as attics, basements and/or crawlspaces.

  • Work and travel in inclement weather.

  • Work all hours' day or night.

  • Work performed near power facilities and electricity.

VIEW JOBS 12/1/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-03-01T00:00 Overview We are looking for a Network Specialist to work within the Inside Plant Construction team. This position will be filled in the Western part of the United States. This person will sit in one of our TDS office locations. The Network Specialist position on the Inside Plant Construction team requires the ability to manage installation sources based on timeline, budget and scope of a particular project. Individual will partner with Outside Plant Construction, Broadband Systems engineering and other teams to respond rapidly to incoming projects. Individual must be knowledgeable about the current state of the TDS installation standards, and must be aware of ongoing efforts to improve those standards. Individual must be capable of managing internal and external installation sources. Individual must have the ability to conduct inspections on projects and work with internal teams or installation source to correct any issues while maintaining the timeline of a project. Individual must have the ability to educate as needed in order to reduce project issues in the future. Please note: We can hire this position as a Network Specialist - Senior Network Specialist, based on skills set and relevant experience. Responsibilities * Coordinate contractor's workload and prioritize based on scheduled dates. * Collaboratively prioritize as needed to handle Expedites and Jeopardy situations in a timely manner. * Select and support and manage internal installers and external installation vendors. * Partner with Outside Plant Construction and Broadband Systems Engineering to create a seamless Engineering function in the Implementation pipeline. * Work with vendors to coordinate work schedules as necessary. * Work with Broadband Systems Engineering to update and maintain Standards as necessary * Manage the Construction process and workflow for continuous improvement; monitor internal customer feedback and conduct internal review sessions to ensure Inside Plant Construction output is consistent and high quality.
