The Manager in Training is responsible for establishing and maintaining a high level of customer service and supporting the Store Manager. The Manager in Training is responsible for various tasks involved in the overall support of operating a store including directing the receipt and processing of the weekly freight shipments, maintaining the stockroom, as well as, building and maintaining attractive displays, ensuring pricing and signing guidelines are followed and that all planogram's are current and set properly in all departments. In this position, the incumbent will be trained to become a store manager within the organization; therefore, Managers in Training must be willing to relocate within an agreed upon territory.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure that each customer receives outstanding service by providing a customer friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining outstanding standards, solid product knowledge and all other components of customer service.
Assists the Store Manager (and as directed by the Store Manager) in the recruitment, training, development and communication with all store staff.
Maintain all merchandising standards, display presentation, signing standards and monitor inventory levels.
Assist the Store Manager in planning and assigning daily goals, tasks and assignments. Assure proper completion through follow-up.
Assist in monitoring sales performance, through the analysis of sales reports and comparison shopping. Assist in adjusting strategies.
Maintain adherence to all FRED'S policies and procedures.
Assists the Store Manager with all office tasks including management of funds, receiving, inventory and payroll.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.
Employee must be able to work a flexible schedule.
This position will have occasional supervisory authority as determined solely by the Store Manager.
Maintains a high level of awareness and customer contact on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment.
Understands the Loss Prevention Awareness program and EAS procedure.
Maintains a safe working and shopping environment for team members and customers.
Reports any unsafe conditions or practices to the Store Manager.
Understands and can implement all emergency procedures for power failure, fire, robbery, etc. at the request of or in the absence of the Store Manager.
Follows all damaged merchandise policies, including the identification of damaged merchandise, proper processing of each piece and the notification of store management to review and approve all disposals.
Understands all policies and procedures concerning cash, check, charge card and refund transactions, voids and offline procedures.
Maintains a high level of awareness and accuracy when handling bankable tenders.
H.S. graduate or equivalent required. Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred.
Two to three years retail store experience preferred. Previous management experience preferred.

Frequent bending, stooping and kneeling to run check out station, stock merchandise and unload trucks.
Frequent handling of merchandise and equipment such as hand-held scanner, pricing guns, box cutters, merchandise containers, two-wheel dollies, and U-boats (six-wheel carts).
Frequent and proper lifting, pushing or pulling of up to 40 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds.
Fast-paced environment; moderate noise level.
Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps.
Computer/POS Register usage.
Reaching, turning, and moving product through out store.
Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication and express and exchange ideas.
