Job Description and Duties

If you are passionate about data analysis and want to lead a talented and motivated team to drive data-driven decision-making for Claims and Legal operations of a Workers Compensation insurance carrier, we want to hear from you!

This position may be filled in any State Fund location, which may include the following: Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Eureka, Fresno, San Luis Obispo, Pleasanton, Redding, Riverside, Glendale, Rohnert Park, Sacramento, Santa Ana, San Diego, Stockton, or Vacaville.

Under the direction of the Vice President of Business Intelligence, you will:

  • Oversee a hybrid team responsible for the collection, processing, analysis, visualization and reporting of high-quality business intelligence products
  • Lead the team to automate reports and develop intelligent data products using MicroStrategy applications
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize our report automation processes
  • Manage Claims and Legal data projects of the most complex, sensitive, and critical level
  • Use data analytic techniques to extract insights and knowledge from complex data sets, and communicate findings to Claims and Legal leaders in a clear and relevant way
  • Work with stakeholders across the organization to identify and prioritize data analysis needs and opportunities, and develop and execute plans to meet them
  • Identify and implement improvements on business intelligence process, leveraging your knowledge of data analysis as well as Claims and Legal operations to identify areas for optimization

New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of the alternate salary range when applicable. Placement to alternate salary range may be based on education or experience identified in your state application.

Working Conditions

Telework may be available and is subject to change based on State Fund guidelines and business needs.

The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

Selected candidate(s) hired may be required to attend in-person Onboarding at our Vacaville office with expenses for attendance paid by State Fund.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Proficient knowledge of California Workers Compensation guidelines, workflows and policies affecting claims handling and Workers Comp legal operation
  • 3+ years of experience in developing intelligent data products using MicroStrategy applications preferred
  • 5+ years of successful project management experience managing multiple projects simultaneously is a plus
  • Successful experience in communicating complex data findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to oversee planned deliverables implementation and adoption
  • Ability to coach, guide and lead others to accomplish goals and organizational objectives
  • Proven track record of executing successful projects for business improvement
  • Knowledge of Business Intelligence tools such as MicroStrategy, SQL Developer, Excel Pivot Tables and SPSS preferred
  • Working knowledge of California Workers Compensation electronic Claims and Legal systems
  • Education in statistics, mathematics, economics, project management, business administration, computer science or other research related technical fields preferred
