Aligned to our operating company, Lillibridge Healthcare Services, the Manager, Human Resources is responsible for enhancing and managing talent management practices, assessing and recommending employee relations initiatives, and developing best in class tools to enhance skills, improve effectiveness and enhance levels of engagement across the organization. The role serves as an adviser to the Chicago-based senior leadership team, a geographically dispersed management team, and approximately 200 employees across the U.S. The Manager, Human Resources is also an integral member of the corporate HR team, leading or participating in strategic initiatives in support of the company's business objectives. The Manager, Human Resources collaborates with the Centers of Excellence (Compensation & Benefits, Talent Acquisition and HR Operations) to ensure the cohesive delivery of HR programs and services to the business.


  • Engage with the leadership team to develop strategies to support strong employee engagement and manager capability (including learning and development, and succession and workforce planning)

  • Coach managers and employees to strengthen work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention to drive successful business outcomes

  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues by conducting effective, thorough and objective investigations

  • Assess and recommend employee relations practices to reinforce a supportive employer-employee relationship while promoting the importance of accountability and business results

  • Serve as the project manager and lead for the annual employee engagement survey, including analysis and action planning recommendations

  • On an on-going basis, and with a paramount focus on excellence, modify existing programs and policies to ensure market competitiveness and alignment with company culture and direction

  • Compile information and create presentations to support human capital initiatives and projects

  • Identify training and development opportunities for designated business segments and recommend appropriate programs; conduct training sessions as needed

  • Ensure that core processes and internal controls are executed with rigor, attention to detail and accuracy

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing risk and ensuring regulatory compliance

  • Provide coaching and feedback to team members

  • Lead and/or participate on designated and ad hoc project teams

  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • At least 7 years of Human Resources generalist experience preferably in real estate, hospitality or professional services

  • Bachelor degree required

  • SPHR preferred

  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation, recruitment, employee relations, diversity, performance management, organizational diagnosis, and federal and respective state employment laws

  • Successful track record of working and thriving in a dynamic, fast-paced and changing environment that is results oriented and collaborative

  • Proven ability to effectively communicate with executives and senior leaders

  • Proven ability to collaboratively manage and resolve complex employee relations matters

  • Skilled at simultaneously managing both strategic initiatives and the execution of day-to-day deliverables

  • Demonstrated ability to create compelling presentations

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, experience with HRIS

  • Ability to travel occasionally for site visits and meetings

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Payroll Analyst responsibilities include reviewing payroll data and payroll documents for inefficiencies and errors, checking whether all amounts are accurate based on hours worked and ensuring payments are processed timely. A successful candidate will have excellent analytical skills along with the ability to spot numerical errors. Ultimately, this position will help us maintain an efficient payroll process that complies with all federal and state regulations. Review timesheets and attendance records and correct inaccuracies Process multi-state weekly and bi-weekly payroll for over 2000 employees Prepare and submit all necessary paperwork for tax deductions, benefits and wage attachments Analyze compensation – related data including wages and bonuses Maintain appropriate documentation to substantiate data entry requests Conduct regular audits and payroll procedures and records Document and implement procedures to streamline payroll processes Report to management on any payroll issues and changes Stay current on state and federal payroll and tax laws Create A/P vouchers for payment Utilizes analytical and problemslving skills to create reports for senior management Assists with the completion of monthly general ledger account reconciliations Assists with special projects as needed POSITION REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience and Qualifications): At least three (3) years of experience working in a payroll department or payroll related field Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel Excellent organizational skills with ability to excel at timeliness and accuracy at all times, including during times of multi-tasking and interruptions Additional preferences: Advanced payroll certification (CPP) Experience using Ultimate Software and/or Kronos timekeeping Bachelor's degree PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES: Proven experience as a Payroll Analyst, Payroll Coordinator or similar role Instills trust with others through personal communication style, approachability, professionalism, accuracy and follow-through on commitments and deadlines Deep functional expertise to ensure depth of understanding of state and federal payroll and tax regulations Exceptional verbal and written communication skills Possess a strong sense of employee customer service and uses positive reinforcement in conflict resolution or employee concerns High degree of organizational skills with an eye toward improving processes and methods of work, leveraging automation and technology to simplify and drive consistency Excellent mathematical/analytical skills with the ability to analyze complex data Thrives on using technology to automate and optimize tasks to ensure time is spent on more value added activities ABOUT AMSTED RAIL: We are a privately held, 100% employee-owned company!
