The Manager of Housing Operations reports to the Assistant Director of Residence Life for Housing Assignments. The manager contributes to the effective daily operations of a housing operation with more than 6,000 beds. The manager works collaboratively with the Associate Director of Residence Life for Facilities Operations, the Coordinator of Marketing & Residence Hall Assignments, and the Associate Director of Residence Life to provide large scale operational support. The Manager of Housing Operations is also responsible for the daily operation of Graduate Apartments including supervising 2-3 Apartment Supervisors. This is a live-in position that provides on-call support for card access after-hours and serves on the on-call duty rotation at the Residence Hall Director level for approximately 1,200-2,000 residents. A live-in position is one where the individual maintains an on-campus apartment as their primary residence. The Manager of Housing Operations must reside in an on-campus apartment throughout the term of their appointment.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience that equates to four years.
Two years of experience in university housing or residence life work at a college or university.
Demonstrated cultural competency skills.
Demonstrated technology skills.
Working knowledge of computer applications and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills.
Demonstrated customer service skills.
Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license with the ability to operate a university vehicle.
Able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications
Supervisory and management experience in the higher education setting.
Experience with StarRez, Lenel Access Control, Asset Essentials, SAP, and Photoshop.
Continued engagement in higher education professional associations and professional development opportunities.
Duties & Responsibilities
Coordinates assignments for university apartments.
Processes/calculates financial transactions for break housing, charge slips, withdrawals, and move in/outs.
Supervises Apartment Supervisors.
Manages Spring, Summer and Fall housing transitions including communication, cleaning and key collection/distribution in collaboration with the assignments team and summer staff.
Coordinates the early arrival process for Residence Life including communication with campus partners and area staff, key distribution, and communication with residents.
Writes procedures and manuals for housing processes.
Serves on the Residence Hall Director on-call duty rotation and provides direction to paraprofessionals after hours.
Responds to student crisis and facilities concerns.
Manages year end damage process including communication with the Building Maintenance Workers, submitting charges to Auxiliary Services, and supports adding charges to student accounts.
Coordinates card access for all residential facilities including programming, maintaining staff lists, temp cards, and signage.
Provides on-call support for card access after-hours.
Manages the bedloft and micro-fridge rental process in coordination with Residence Life Facilities Operations.
Designs and implements the move-in and move-out process for residential facilities including appointments, supplies and traffic control.
Liaison to Residence Life Facilities, CMU Police, Parking Bureau and University Events.
Monitors and manages the Residence Life facilities software reporting system and preventative maintenance schedule with direction from the Associate Director for Facilities Operations.
Assists with marketing and orientation events.
All other duties as assigned.
