GENERAL SUMMARY:

Provides clinically focused leadership, guidance and supervision to the Lead Resident Counselor, direct care, and case management services staff in the adult halfway house/residential services programs areas. Continuously monitors and assesses the quality execution of counseling/therapeutic services offered/provided adult halfway house/residential services clients and their children. Works with all staff to enhance and expand the scope, quality, and consistency of therapeutic services and interventions to assure that research-based/best practices are being utilized. Coordinates the development and provision of educational programs for adult halfway house/residential services staff to expand clinical skill sets and insure quality service execution.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises, guides, and directs Lead Resident Counselor, Resident Counselors, Self-Sufficiency, and Case Management staff emphasizing/insuring the provision of qualitative therapeutic services.

  • Provides leadership and support to House of Mercy's adult halfway house/residential services programs' accreditation and compliance initiatives/activities.

  • Consistently monitors and evaluates the quality and consistency of therapeutic services provided adult halfway house/residential services clients and their children.

  • Evaluates overall programming to insure that it is researched/best practice based and tied to measurable outcomes.

  • Provides training and education to assigned direct care and counseling staff in such areas as clinical skill development (e.g., group facilitation skills), addiction concepts, program enhancement strategies/approaches, etc. Ensures that staff training/development activities address identified staff and program needs.

  • Monitors and evaluates progress/achievement of related goals/objectives.

  • Provides oversight to ongoing student internship opportunities.

  • Provides crisis intervention/management services and conflict resolution assistance.

  • Conducts regular supervisory meetings to review and discuss client progress, assures consistent implementation of treatment plan goals/objectives, and promotes team involvement in problem solving/resolution.

  • Coordinates services with community agencies, schools, courts, service providers of significant others, and mental health/other health care professionals to provide an extended, high quality continuum of care for House of Mercy adult halfway house/residential services clients and their children.

  • Collaborates with treatment team in developing appropriate discharge plan and aftercare programming. Assists staff in locating housing for residents prior to their departure. Integrates the resident into appropriate post-placement programs including Alumni and Continuing Care groups.

  • Assures assigned staff meet client documentation expectations including content quality, timeliness, and relevance. Promptly works with staff to make necessary revisions, changes in order to comply with standards/expectations.

  • Maintains an awareness of applicable accreditation, regulatory, and licensing requirements as they relate to programming expectations.

  • Accountable for insuring that there is appropriate documentation of all therapy/counseling sessions, significant incident occurrences, phone conversations, etc. consistent with applicable standards/requirements.

  • Prepares and distributes required reports and other documentation of services according to House of Mercy policies and procedures, applicable laws, regulations and licensing requirements.

  • Assures that adult halfway house/residential services staff, Director and other House of Mercy staff (as appropriate) have the information they need to provide quality service to the client; assists in the training of Resident Counselors.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides therapy and counseling services when and where necessary including the conducting of initial assessments/intakes that utilize the American Society of Addiction Medicine Patient Placement Criteria (ASAM).

  • Provides statistical and research information as requested and/or required by laws, regulations or licensing requirements.

  • Supervises staff development of treatment plans and clinical documentation in accordance with program requirements, state regulations, etc. and communicates pertinent treatment plan information to all involved as needed.

  • Serves as resource to Administrative Assistant for Data in development of information databases, outcome measurements, and program evaluation.

  • Participates in public relations and media efforts to promote House of Mercy. Attends community meetings/activities to promote House of Mercy and enhance relationships with other agencies. Attends training on relevant topics to insure program quality, efficacy, competitiveness, and compliance with licensing/regulatory requirements.

  • Participates in House of Mercy's Performance Quality Improvement Process.

  • Assists the Director in program/curriculum development as directed.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Master's Degree in a human services related discipline from an accredited program, required.

  • Independent licensed masters level prepared mental health practitioner (or eligible within six months of hire).

  • CADC certified with the state of Iowa or certified within three (3) months from date of hire.

  • Valid Driver's/Chauffeurs License required, must meet Mercy's Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, must be at least 18 years of age and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.

  • One (1) year supervisory experience, preferred.

  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within first 30 days of employment.
