Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Manager of Ground System Design Engineering to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA. As the Manager of Design Engineering, you will be oversee all development activity across a line of products.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for all aspects of staffing & managing a team of design engineers.

  • Functional management of engineering staff that includes providing performance feedback, career development, mentoring, and technical direction.

  • Serve as the staffing focal for Design Engineers across multiple programs.

  • Develop a detailed Product Definition Process that documents the process for creating and releasing Ground Systems drawings.

  • Work with Product Managers to define product roadmaps and develop detailed Integrated Master Schedules that are both aggressive and achievable.

  • Present detailed status reports and metrics to management.

  • Lead the design team to produce a product that meets requirements within cost and schedule.

  • Providing estimates for proposals and new business opportunities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university

  • Must have minimum 5 years of experience as a Design Engineer

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Clearance and program access

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Top Secret Security Clearance

  • Extensive experience with Northrop Grumman's version of Teamcenter Unified and Enterprise

  • Extensive familiarity with drawing standards (such as ASME)

  • Prior Management Experience

  • Extensive experience in production drawing creation and release

  • Proven success leading design teams

  • Project Management experience such as Earned Value Management (EVM), proposal estimating, and maintaining an Integrated Master Scheduling (IMS)

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION: Designs and develops technical training curriculum for customer base. Ensures that training courses address all levels of customers in the use of company products/services. Designs course outlines, gathering supporting technical documentation and developing course workbooks and trainer notes. Interfaces with other departments to develop specifications for course content. Assesses customer needs for future course development. Summary: Responsible for creating, developing and writing various types of user documentation and product instruction for both patient and healthcare provider audiences domestic and international, including in-app education content through various methods of software, user guides, references, and manuals in print and digital. Heavy focus on in-app education content development. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * High collaboration with Research and Development and sub-department of Marketing (Upstream and UI/UX) teams to create product instruction of features, product education, etc. into training materials, in-app content, user guides (via software, print and digital). * Engage subject-matter experts to develop our commercial training materials for CGM and diabetes software products. * Create user instruction for software, technical concepts and features in simple, layperson language using topic-based writing software. * Ensure technical verbiage is easy to understand by our customers and content flow, simplicity and succinctness of all product instruction. * Able to tailor writing style to various age groups and audiences (adults, pediatrics, patients, health care providers, internal staff, regulatory agencies). * Work collaboratively with Graphic Designers to visually enhance the written instruction to ensure optimal learning. * Ensure brand centricity and continuation of our written brand/tone in all CGM software and education materials. * Work with cross-functional teams within Marketing sub-groups, Clinical, Research and Development, Engineering, Quality and Customer Facing Departments. * Keep up-to-date on new and innovative ways to design instruction as it relates to effective education and technical writing on software and the end user, as well as trends in the medical device field. * Collaborate with Human Factor Engineering Teams to test and revise product instruction as needed. Facilitate product training for Human Factors Testing as needed. * Use standard writing styles, such as Chicago Manual of Style. * Create table of contents and cite sources. * Create user instruction and education both written and digital including user guides, quick start guides, scripts for video tutorials and in-app instruction. * Revise user manuals with new or updated features. Follow product life cycles and implement changes as needed to user guide, training materials, etc. * Copy-editing and proof-reading of work product. * Work with agencies as needed to support content development. * Write clear and concise policies and procedures. * Follow and work within the document control system. * Work with Regulatory and Legal to gain final approval of product instruction. Required Qualifications: * To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and in a timely manner and accept responsibility and ownership for each assigned project. This position requires a results-oriented, self-disciplined, fast-paced, motivated individual with excellent communication and collaboration skills that requires minimal supervision and is able to multitask several projects at one time. * Background in in-app content development for both iOS and Android platforms. * Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat Pro, InDesign and Confluence (database software) required. Adobe Creative Cloud apps (Illustrator, Photoshop), Articulate Storyline 360, MadCap Flare and other content development software highly desirable. Experience and Education Requirements: * Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 – 8 years of related experience. * Minimum of three years of experience in technical writing or instructional design for complex products, health care or medical device software preferred. * Experience with technical writing for a FDA-regulated product highly encouraged. * Certification in Technical Writing and/or Master of Science Degree in Instructional Design preferred. Travel Required: * Up to 25% * This position will be based in San Diego, CA, but will travel intermittently, as needed.
